Heads up! Kurata Japanese Fine Dining Restaurant at Park Royal is having a Shabu Shabu ala carte buffet promotion featuring premium wagyu beef, salmon sashimi and many more. Expect nothing less from Kurata Japanese Fine Dining Restaurant and be prepared to be blown away. From only RM120 nett per person, this ala carte shabu shabu promotion is in my very humble opinion, the best in town. This shabu shabu buffet promotion starts from 6.00pm to 10.00pm (last order) and will last until the end of 2015.
We arrived at Kurata at about 9.30pm which is quite late as the last order for the shabu shabu promotion is at 10.00pm but luckily the chefs agreed to accommodate us provided we agree that our last order is at 10.00pm. That’s half an hour to order as many as we can. Since we were there already, we decided to just proceed with it.

Wagyu is known for its quality and commands a high price. So we were quite surprised that Kurata is offering wagyu as one of the items on its shabu shabu buffet promotion. Knowing that this thinly sliced premium beef doesn’t come cheap, we ordered enough for the two of us. And I got to say, the wagyu is freaking delicious.
The ingredients for each pot is set and each ingredient plays an important role in making the soup tasty. The ingredients include shiitake mushroom, carrot, tofu, duck, enoki mushroom, white leek, zosui (Japanese rice soup) set, glebionis coronaria (a type of herb), Chinese cabbage and beef.
There are 29 items on the a la carte menu and to be quite honest, we were quite surprised that salmon sashimi is listed as well. Salmon belly sashimi is also included and you may order it instead of the normal salmon flesh.
There are dishes that you don’t have to cook yourself here. We ordered the tuna rolls, fried chicken, grill mackerel and assorted tempura vegetables. The fried chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Love the crispiness of the chicken which goes very well with mayonnaise and lemon.
If you notice by now, I am a huge fan of grill mackerel. And Kurata delivers for me. It was perfectly seasoned and grilled – highly recommended for mackerel lovers out there.
The tempura assorted vegetables are quite average. I didn’t like the enoki mushroom tempura though – texture wise, it was odd.
Overall, we were quite happy with the services here. The kitchen worked fast with our “giant” orders (half an hour only, so we ordered in bulk lah) and our ingredients came quick. The staffs are quite attentive to our needs as well.
