When was the last time you had steamboat? Last night? Last week? Last year? Or you can’t remember? When you last had a steamboat buffet is not important. Where to get good steamboat is more important. Recently, I tried Suki-Ya Steamboat, an eat all you can sukiyaki and shabu shabu at Mont Kiara. For RM38.90 per person, you’ll get to order anything from their menu and also you’ll get to take any additional food at their healthy bar.
On their menu, you may choose any meat you want from chicken, beef to lamb. Everything sliced very thinly making it easier to cook.
You’ll also get to choose from 4 soup bases such as the shabu-shabu, sukiyaki, miso and kimuchi.
Shabu shabu is low in calories and light on the palate. Sukiyaki on the other hand is sweetened soy-sauce broth. Miso is soup made with fermented soybeans which is full of antioxidants like vitamin E, as well as protective fatty acids. Kimuchi soup is a spicy soup made with authentic Kimchi base, spicy Miso and various vegetable base. Out of the four broths, I would recommend you to order shabu shabu as it taste really good all the way to the end of the meal. Our sukiyaki soup on the other hand get really salty towards the end.
At their Healthy Bar, you’ll get to choose from a variety of fresh vegetables, tofu, mushrooms, corns, leeks and etc. to complete your meal.
Also available are some a-la carte dishes to complement your meal, such as sushi. You may enjoy these sushis while you are waiting for your soup to boil. While we were there, the sushi salmons were snapped up really fast. So if you want to get anything, make sure you sit close enough and be fast. The fresh scallops are a big hit too.
Just in case you are not familiar with Japanese steamboat, Suki-Ya also provide detail steps on how to enjoy your sukiyaki to the maximum. The steps are quite straight forward. First step : Fill 1/2 the pot with sukiyaki stock and bring it to a boil (maintain stock level at 1/2 a pot). Second step: Add leak and onion or other vegetables for flavor. Third Step: Dip sliced meat into sukiyaki stock. Once ready, dip meat into beaten raw egg and begin to enjoy. Fourth Step: Lastly, add udon or rice to remaining stock and enjoy the rich flavor of the stock.
I skipped step 4 entirely and went straight to desserts. For desserts, they serve green tea ice creams and chocolate ice creams. You can have it in a cup or on a cone.
Overall, I think Suki-Ya is a great place to bring your family and friends. The place is cosy and I’ve had a great time there.
