HOW TO START A FOOD BLOG in Just 3 Steps:
1. Domain Name and Web Hosting
2. Installing WordPress
3. Dress It Up
1. Domain Name and Web Hosting
A Domain Name is a website name which points to your food blog. The domain name for my food blog, as you already know, is www.applefoodees.com.
For Web Hosting, I would strongly recommend Bluehost because it is incredibly easy to use. Just one-click WordPress is all you need to do to create your very own food blog. They have amazing customer support via phone and chat too. You can also use multiple domain names in one web host if you intend to create more than one websites.
Select the package that you are comfortable with. As you have just started your food blog, the Starter package should be sufficient for now. You may upgrade your package at any point later when the current package is unable to support your food blog.
Choose an easy to remember domain name for your food blog (It’s Free). If you have an existing domain name, you may use it. The domain name should preferably be relevant and suitable for your food blog.
2. Installing WordPress
Click on WordPress and Install it on your food blog. It takes only seconds to install wordpress on your food blog.
Then assess your wordpress admin page to start creating your blog posts.
Your wordpress admin page url look be like this: http://www.yourdomain.com/wp-admin
If you see this page as shown below, then you are all set.
3. Dress It Up
At this point in time, you have officially created your very own food blog. Yay!
Now that you know how to start a food blog, how does it feel?
All wordpress installations comes with default themes. To make your food blog more appealing to your readers, you may want to pick your own wordpress theme. There are many FREE wordpress themes as well as premium wordpress themes. Personally, I prefer the premium wordpress themes as I get to do more with these themes.
- I bought my very first theme from ThemeForest. I still love it and highly recommend it.
- My second theme was the Codium Extend Theme, a free and simple to use wordpress theme. However, it has very limited function. If you need to do complex customisation on your website, you will have difficulty doing it. You will need to amend the codes in your hosting files to do this. This is not easy, especially if you are clueless about coding.
- I’m currently using the Genesis Framework together with the child theme called the Foodie Pro Theme. It has a clean design and you can easily customise the website in anyway you want. The thing I like the most about this framework and child theme is that, I do not need to do any changes to the codes. I could customise my food blog just by amending the Widgets. I’ve written a more detailed explanation and how to set up this framework and theme here.
