Do you know that Departure Lounge has recently just converted its café at Solaris Mont Kiara to a new restaurant called Wanderlust? The departure from a café to a restaurant idea was sprung out by its owners as they do not want to serve only good coffee but also good food. So fans of Departure Lounge, you can continue to enjoy great coffee at their newly opened restaurant called Wanderlust.
Last week, we were invited by Wanderlust to have some samples on their food. Our dinner “took off” with their French Onion Soup, Baby Spinach and Flaming Wings. Then we “cruise” with Fritata with Grilled Salmon and Gua Bao. Thereafter we “landed” with their dessert, Sago Espresso.
For appetizer, we had Wanderlust’s French Onion Soup with Parmesan Crouton. The base used to cook the onion soup is beef stock. Beef lovers, you would like this. The soup was very flavorful and it goes very well with the crouton. The price of this soup is however a little bit on the high side and is priced at RM15 a bowl.
Next came our Baby Spinach with slices of green apple, raisins, goji and beets dressed with orange vinaigrette and topped with a deep fried poached free-range egg. This appetizer is really good. The dish may look simple but I’m sure it is not easy to do. The egg was poached and thereafter fried really quick. When it arrive at our table, the outer layer of the egg was crispy and the yolk was still in its liquid form and when it was cut into half, the liquid oozes out onto the salad. This was D, E, L, I, C, I, O, U, S – Delicious!
Our next appetizer was the Flaming Chicken Wings with hot sauce and spiced watermelon. The chicken wings were not flamingly spicy enough for me. So if you love really spicy food, remember to ask them to make it more spicy for you.
For main course, we had Frittata with Grilled Salmon and homemade tomato chutney. Now, you’ll probably wondering what is frittata? Frittata is an egg-based Italian dish similar to an omelette or crustless quiche, enriched with additional ingredients such as meats, cheeses, vegetables or pasta. It is the yellow thing in the middle where the salmon sits. Honestly, I think the salmon is great on its own. Salmons have distinct and strong flavor. The combination of flavors of this dish is a bit off.
Gua Bao with chicken thigh, black olives, raisins, lemon and herbs came next. This dish would be better if they serve some with some sauce separately. This dish is too dry.
Wanderlust serves really good coffee. I do not know too much about coffee but I love coffee. These are some brief descriptions about the coffee they use here.
I am not particular on the coffee artwork. But if you do, you can expect some highly skilled coffee artwork made by the baristas here.
Wanderlust is open from 11am to 10pm on Mondays to Fridays and from 9am to 10pm on Saturdays and Sundays. They serve different things for lunch and dinner. Here is their Day Menu…
…and their Night Menu. Not much but good enough to have a good meal and great coffee.
Other drinks they have are bottled craft beers, teas and others.
