Thirdwave Cafe at Nexus, Bangsar is run by a team of young chaps and they serve unique and creative dishes and desserts.
Take a look at this Fried Chicken with Waffles. The fried chicken is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The waffles came crisps but later turned soft. The chicken is salty, tomatoes are souring and they combine well with the somewhat tasteless waffle. The texture and taste combinations are surprisingly good.
We also had the Fried Duck Waffles with Ice Cream. Compared this with the earlier fried chicken, the fried duck is much more salty but it balanced out with the sweet ice cream and bland waffles. The duck meat is slightly tougher but it’s alright.
The Chicken with Charcoal Bun is quite good even though it doesn’t really look good here. The charcoal bun is stuffed with generous amount of chicken and is quite difficult to eat with bare hands. Thr only downside to this dish is that it gets soggy underneath as the sauce from the chicken flow onto the bun. Nevertheless, it was savory and good.
Seafood in tomato sauce / ratatouille is one of my favorite here, simply because Thirdwave is generous with the amount of fresh seafood in it – many different type of seafood too. It is sour, sweet and pepperish. Recommended.
The highlight of Thirdwave has got to be their desserts. I don’t need to say any further. Just take a look at their Ice Cream Desset. Don’t they look beautiful? We were informed that this dessert is made by them. You’ve got to come and and try it.
Coffee is good – smooth and creamy.
Overall, we were quite happy with our meals. A very clever play on the different textures and tastes combination of food is how I would describe the food served here.
