The Jungle City Kitchen & Bar in Kepong

January 6, 2017 by Apple Foodees 1 Comment

The Jungle City Kitchen & Bar is a new restaurant in Kepong and even though it is new, nothing is holding them back. Almost every night, they are fully booked and this is the situation until February 2017. Well, at least that is what we have been told during our first visit there in early December 2016.

Isn’t that amazing?

The Jungle City Kepong

The Jungle City Kitchen & Bar operates from a factory lot which you can see if you are driving along the very busy Jalan Burung Hantu, Kepong. This area used to be very quiet with little or no traffic. But with the opening of this new ‘yum-cha’ place, you should expect a lot of traffic and very little parking space here.

The Jungle City Kitchen & Bar – FOOD

Alright, let’s talk about the food now.

We kept our expectation low hoping that this new restaurant delivers. They did but only to a certain extent. We ordered the Boxing Chicken @ RM9.80, Salted Egg Chicken Chop @ RM18.80, Neptune Mermaid Delight @ RM28.80 and All Season Durian Cake @ RM12.00. Out of the above 4 items, we only enjoyed the Salted Egg Chicken Chop. The rest is just average.

The Jungle City Boxing Chicken

Our boxing chicken had a strong reused oil taste which is unpleasant that we sent it back to the kitchen after only one bite.

The Jungle City Seafood Platter

The Neptune Mermaid Delight was not as ‘delightful’ as its name. The squid was rubbery as it was overcooked, prawns was dry and the dory fish fillet had a strong fishy smell. For the price of Neptune Mermaid Delight, I suggest you opt for the chicken chop instead of seafood.

Chicken Chop Salted Egg

The Chicken Chop Salted Egg is awesome! The sauce that comes with it is something new. It is very different from the usual and boring brown sauce, mushroom sauce or black pepper sauce. Don’t get me wrong, these sauces are also available on Jungle City’s menu but salted egg sauce is a good substitute. It taste just like the salted egg sauce you’ll get at any ‘dai chou’ restaurant.

Jungle City Cake

Don’t get your expectation high with the All Season Durian Cake. The durian taste was very light, too light in my opinion. Durian is suppose to be the main ingredient in this cake, but its not.

The Jungle City Drinks

They have live band during the weekends which starts from 9.00pm onwards. The Jungle City Kitchen & Bar is the new hot place for friends and families to hang out or yum cha in Kepong. If you are here for the drinks, they are quite alright with that because they have a good selection of drinks including beers. But if you are coming here for the food, order something else other than what we’d ordered.

The Jungle City Kitchen & Bar
Address: Lot 37635, Jalan 6/37A, Taman Bukit Maluri, Kepong, 52100 Kuala Lumpur.
Business hours: 5pm to 12am
