Soi 55 Thai Kitchen & Bar is a new Thai restaurant that had just opened in Solaris Mont Kiara. As far as I know, there is no Thai restaurant in Solaris Mont Kiara. So, the opening of this new Thai restaurant is definitely a change of environment as there are far too many Korean restaurants here.
The Vermicelli with Sea Prawns @ RM30.00 is awesome! That’s right. The vermicelli was very flavourful. The sea prawns (4 of them!) were so fresh that it doesn’t take much effort to peel the flesh off its shell. So good, that we thought that this vermicelli with sea prawns is better than the one we had in Bangkok (here and here).
Soi 55 used the same sea prawns for our Deep Fried Prawns with Tamarind @ RM25.00. If you love prawns, this is definitely the one you should order. Flavour is on spot. The number of prawns given is also very generous considering the fact that this type of prawns (meng har) is not cheap.
The sauce for the Steamed Squid with Garlic and Lime @ RM30.00 was good but the longer the fire stays on, our squids turned more and more rubbery. I think it would be better if we had ordered the sea bass fish instead of squid.
As for the Stir Fried La La with Roasted Chilli @ RM22.00, the clams were huge, meaty and fresh. It was good on its own – savoury with a hint of basil leaves sweetish taste to it but the goodness of the vermicelli with sea prawns and fried prawns overshadowed this dish.
For drinks, we had the Thai Milk Tea and the Green Milk Tea. My suggestion is to order them with less ice if you want your drinks to be thicker.
There are many choices of dessert to cleanse your palate after your meal. We tried the Thai Mango Sticky Rice @RM10.00 and the Tub Tim Krob @ RM5.00. Both are pretty standard. Our tub tim krob had lots of ingredients instead of ice which is a pleasant surprise. Most restaurants gave half of the amount they gave here.
There are lunch sets here as well and they are priced at RM11.00 nett. The lunch promotion starts every day from 11.00am to 3.00pm. Dinner promotion is available as well – choose 3 dishes (appetizer, tom yum and vegetable) from the selected choices for only RM55.00 nett.
