Senthai & Mookata (Thai Steamboat and BBQ) – Menjalara, Kepong

October 26, 2016 by Apple Foodees Leave a Comment

Senthai Mookata is currently my favourite Thai food restaurant. We’ve tried some of the Thai street food recently (you can read all about it here) and had to come back to try their Thai steamboat and BBQ / Mookata.

We were blown away on how good it was. The use of charcoal as the burning medium definitely makes the difference in the food. Not only that, Senthai & Mookata also serves only high quality ingredients and you could taste it in every bite you take.

Even for steamboat, they use the traditional steamboat pot that uses charcoal as the burning medium. Since charcoal is used, there is no way to control the fire. So, you got to be extra careful. As for ingredients, you could either order the fixed set or a la carte or both. We had their Seafood Set for 2 pax @ RM58.00.

As you can see, Senthai Mookata focuses on fresh ingredients. There are some processed food but there are more fresh ingredients compared to what you normally get in other restaurants for about the same price. Prawns, scallops and mussels are some of the fresh ingredients they have here.

There are a variety of meat slices available as well. The one I recommend you to go for is the pork shoulder which has a good ratio of meat and fat to it. It tastes great grilled or boiled. The meat was sliced very thin and it was cooked within seconds. If you are grilling it, make sure that you toss and turn it often to avoid it from burning.

Peanut sauce with sesame seeds, chopped garlics, parsleys and chilis are also served together. It is recommended that you may mix everything up but whether you wish to do so is entirely up to you.

We also had the chance to try their Thai chicken rice. Taste wise, it was good but the chicken was a little to tough. It would be better if the chicken is a little juicier.

For drinks, I would recommend you to try the Thai Ice Tea whereby the ice is separately from the Thai tea itself. You could taste the richness and aromatic flavour of the tea without any dilution of the taste from the ice. This is slightly more expensive compared to the normal Thai Tea with ice but it is worth it.

Senthai & Mookata only serves one type of dessert, that is the Coconut Milk Ice Cream. I wouldn’t say this is better than the well-known brands out there, but it is a good rendition to the Thai coconut ice creams that are available in Bangkok.
