Salasabaii is a newly opened Thai stall at 118 KK Food Court at Taman Taynton View in Cheras. Salasabaii is operated by Thais and they serve authentic Thai Cuisine, Mookata-Thai BBQ Steamboat, and Jim Jum-Thai Claypot Steamboat.
There are two types of soup you could choose from for jim jum and they are either tom yum or pork soup. We had the tom yum soup. It was well balanced between savory and sourish. The tom yum soup wasn’t spicy at all, so it doesn’t get spicier the longer you boil it. Just stronger tasting and thicker tom yum soup.
If you are not familiar with how a Mookata works, it is basically a round dome shape grill plus hot plate where you barbecue your food in the middle and at the same time boil your food in the soup around it. This concept is similar to the Thai franchise restaurant, BarBQ Plaza. But the major difference between Salasabaii and the franchise restaurant is that Salasabaii uses charcoal instead of electricity / gas.
For ingredients, you could choose either the seafood set @ RM59.00, the meat set @ RM39.00 or the mix set @ RM49.00. To get the best of both worlds, the order the mix set. The mix set comes with pork, chicken, prawn, squid, mix vegetables, egg, noodle, and mushroom. Salasabaii claims that the ingredients they provide are 100% fresh premium quality. And you could see here that they actually walk the talk.
There is only a handful of processed food unlike any other steamboat restaurants around.
While waiting for your food, you should order Salasabaii’s BBQ Salt Baked Fish @ RM32.00. They don’t use the normal fresh water tilapias but sea water tilapias. The salt baked fish was very good. The flesh wasn’t salty but sweet. The sauces that come with this dish is the one to die for. It was perfectly balanced – sweet, sour, saltish and spicy – everything about this sauce and the fish is just right. This BBQ salt baked fish alone is the reason why you should try Salasabaii. They only take 15 to 20 fish per day, so better get there early to avoid any disappointment.
