PoPo Steamboat Cafe in Kepong

July 29, 2016 by Apple Foodees Leave a Comment

PoPo Steamboat Cafe has been around in Kepong for about 3 years now. And I didn’t know the existence of this steamboat restaurant until VK told me about it.

You see, PoPo Steamboat Cafe is not located on at a place where there is a lot of traffic but at a quiet corner in an industrial area called TSI Business & Industrial Park – somewhere after the row of shophouses at First Residence Kepong.

Unlike other steamboat restaurants around where soups are normally boiled in large pots and thereafter kept in kettles to make it easier for refillings and shared by everyone, PoPo Steamboat Cafe serves customised soups.

For example, if you order the Superior Pork Bone Soup, they will make that soup specially for you. It may take a while for them to get the soup ready for you, but trust me, it’s worth it. If you look at the picture above, that’s what we got and how our soup looks like when it arrived at our table. A pot of soup with lots of ingredients and a big pork bone. No wonder it taste so good already.

There are many choice of soup available here and the most popular choice is the PoPo Superior Pork Bone Soup @ RM 18.90. As you can see, PoPo’s Superior Pork Bone Soup comes filled with ingredients and not the normal pathetic soup you find elsewhere.

Among all the steamboat restaurants in Kepong I’ve been so far, PoPo Steamboat Cafe is the only one that offers a good variety of handmade steamboat ingredients. The siew mais and the prawn balls are worth mentioning here.

The sliced pork is a common ingredient as you could also get this in other steamboat restaurants around. But it’s good to know, right. I find myself ordering a plate of sliced pork everytime I go for a steamboat meal. It’s an ingredient that I cannot do without.

This is what it looks like for Set A. It comprised of any and every ingredient you’ll even need. The minimum order for set ingredients are for 2 persons. They don’t do for one person other than a la carte style.

You may also order some cooked food like we did. We ordered some fried sui know, PoPo’s fried drunken chicken and fried fish skin.

Overall, we enjoy the food here very much and it looks like I’ll be coming back here for more steamboat meals.
