Podgy & The Banker+ claimed to have been “Voted Best One of Top 10 Cafes in KL by friends & ourselves ;)” . View source: Podgy and The Banker+ Website
To me, they are not even in the top 10 in KL.
How do you determine whether a restaurant or a cafe is good?
Do you rate them based on their food? Drinks maybe? Ambience? Or all of the above.
There is no standard how a person should follow in order to rate a restaurant or a cafe.
It depends very much on the experience one gets when he / she dine in a restaurant / cafe. To me, everything counts. Everything from the food, drinks, ambiance and service – all of these affects how good a restaurant or a cafe is.
But how can you be in the top 10 in KL when you can’t even cook a chicken chop correctly. There is only one version of chicken chop here. You don’t get to choose Chicken Maryland or Chicken Chop with Mushroom Sauce or Chicken Chop with Black Pepper Sauce. You get a “rojak” version of Chicken Maryland Chop with Mushroom and Black Pepper Sauce. And you guess it.
Soggy and oily are what I would describe this dish. It is a known fact that if you pour hot sauce over a crispy surface, it will turn soggy in no time. I didn’t enjoy this at all. In fact, I left the soggy breaded layer of the chicken chop for the cook to see how disgusting it was. How hard is it to cook a decent chicken chop? Free recipes of good chicken chops are everywhere on the internet. Heck, even youtube have videos of great chefs cooking simple chicken chop and they are available 24/7.
I’ll leave this here for those who are interested:

Carbonara with bacon and mushroom at RM18.00 was okay. It was creamy. The saltiness of the bacon and the earthy taste of the mushrooms, when combined with the slightly sweet creamy sauce was good. Texture wise, the pasta is too soft as it was overcooked.
For drinks, we ordered the hot latte at RM11.00. The hot latte was slightly on the bitter side. It was creamy and it has a simple coffee artwork right on top of it.
As for Podgy and The Banker+’s Mocha Ice, it was quite good. Lots of cream. Very chocolatey.
For your information, currently Podgy and The Banker+ is having a promotion for its pasta lunch set. We did not see this board until we finished our food and stepped out of the cafe. Apparently, for only RM29.90, you could choose any pasta set and this set come with any pasta of your choosing, a drink and a waffle with ice cream. We paid RM18 (carbonara) + RM11 (hot latte) = RM29.00 and missed the waffle ice cream. The staff at Podgy and The Banker didn’t even inform us of this promotion or at least ask us whether we would like to opt for this set when we ordered our food.
This is an unusual statement I’ve ever seen on a receipt / tax invoice (only available at Podgy and the Banker+): “No, the restroom isn’t at the back of the cafe”.
I guess there are many oblivious customers who had walked to the back of the cafe to seek for the restroom.
In fact, during our time there, there were so many who had failed to see the very big and obvious instruction on the glass door.
Can you see it?
There are 2, TWO huge signs with the word “PULL” on each side of the glass door. Yet, so many tried to push it open. Use the word “TARIK”, maybe?
One thing Podgy and The Banker+ should do immediately is this.
Change their signboard. Can you locate it?
It’s here! I’ve circled it in red. They are right next to D’Fong and B’Lab at the Verve Shops at Mont Kiara. They should consider redoing their signboard as it is not obvious at all as anyone would have missed it for the obvious reason. This picture is taken during the day time. Do you think you can see it at night?
So back to my first question. How do you rate a restaurant / a cafe? Tell me about it by dropping a comment below. I love to know what you think.
