Oscar Coffee and Food is a cafe-restaurant that has opened recently at Taman Bukit Mutiara, Kajang. If you have not heard of Taman Bukit Mutiara, that’s because this is a new township in Kajang. We saw many new gated houses and condominiums around this area as we drove from Prima Saujana to Taman Bukit Mutiara.
It’s hard not to notice Oscar Coffee & Food as this is one of the few that are currently in operation now. In fact, they had just received new outdoor tables and chairs when we arrived yesterday.
Oscar’s Coffee
Oscar Coffee and Food specialises in coffee and Japanese food. Since the word ‘coffee’ appears before the word ‘food’ in the name of this cafe/restaurant, I’ll talk about the coffee first.
They serve normal coffee as well as specialty coffee here. There are over 20 different kinds of serving here and the one that appeals to us is Oscar’s Signature Nitro Black Coffee @ RM11.
What separates this specialty coffee from the rest is the technique used to prepare and make this nitro black coffee. I’m not going to go deep into how they prepare this coffee but it’s sufficient to inform you that there’s nitrogen involved and there’s special technique used in the preparation of this coffee. The end result is just amazing – a Guinness-like foamy, smooth and aromatic coffee. It even looks like draft beer except that it’s not.
We also ordered their Iced Supreme Chocolate @ RM25. We were told that no sugar was added to this drink (which is great because I’m cutting down on sugar) but chocolate milk with chocolate powder, chocolate bits and syrup.
You may order takeaways for Oscar’s coffee. But only the Oscar’s Long Black Coffee comes in these nice bottles, similar to the Starbucks to-go bottled coffee. It’s a great to-go coffee to start your day with. But if you prefer tea, green tea or macha is available as well.
Oscar’s Food
Even though Oscar Coffee and Food is relatively new in the market, their chef is not. Their chef has more than 20 years experience in Japanese food and it is apparent in the food they served here.
Our salmon sashimi came fresh and in thick slices. It may seem a little pricey at RM33 for 6 slices. The sashimi moriawase on the other hand is a better deal as it comes with 20 slices of 5 different variety of sashimi for only RM70.
Our Tori Teriyaki (grilled chicken served with teriyaki sauce) @ RM20 is commendable as well.
The Oscar Oyster @ RM20 is their signature oyster and is baked with enoki mushrooms and topped with cheese and mayonnaise. I’ve never had oysters cooked in this manner and I thought that its good.
The Ebi Tempura (tempura prawns) @ RM25.00 comes in 4 pieces. It was fresh and light and a great addition to complete our meal.
Overall, Oscar’s delivers considering that they are still new. This is the place to go to for a good decent coffee and Japanese food in Kajang.
