Omaya Malaysia (Mont Kiara Branch) is very popular and can be very crowded during peak hours. Booking is advised.
Omaya Malaysia has recently just opened its second branch at Mont Kiara. And have you seen Omaya Malaysia’s advertisement on Facebook? I usually don’t take notice on advertisements but there is just one thing that caught my attention. And that is CHEESE. Almost everything on the menu comes with cheese.
Another unique thing about Omaya Malaysia is that it is a construction themed Korean restaurant. All the ‘workers’ / staff you see here are in their construction suits, suits with bright and yellow reflective lines.
Even the restaurant is decorated as if there is a construction going on in the restaurant. What’s more unique is that kimchi and sliced garlics were distributed from a tool box! Clean tool box, that is.
Omaya Malaysia is quite generous in the amount of cheese they serve in each dish. This is the Shimson Stew @ RM84.00 – a combination of army stew with equal portions of a ring of cheese and spicy stir-fried topokki chicken.
This Shimson Stew also comes with cheese fried rice. So what happens is that, the fried rice will be cooked after you have finished the army stew. Look at the amount of cheese. It’s almost exactly the same with the amount of rice.
We also tried the 1200mm Korean BBQ Skewer @ RM138.00 with a ring of egg wash. It consists of 15 layer of seafood, meat, vegetables and fruits. Honestly, I didn’t quite like the idea of my food hanging from the ceiling but if you look it in another way, it actually saves space – table space.
So what they did was that they cook it in 3 batches. The first two batches are meat with vegetables and thereafter grilled seafood. This 1200mm Korean BBQ Skewer also comes with grilled egg, kimchi, dipping sauces and lettuce. The portion is big enough to be shared between 3 to 4 persons.
Next came out Deep Fried Squid Cheesy Topokki Stew @ RM45.00. It is basically double fried (once in 160 degrees and then 180 degrees) coated giant squid in cheesy topokki stew topped with hard boiled egg and vegetables.
For drinks, you may want to try their signature Watermelon HiteJinro Cocktail @ RM36.90. Almost every table ordered this. This drink is made of watermelon juice, some watermelon flesh and Korean HiteJinro wine. This cool and refreshing drink is great for sharing between 5 to 6 persons and is a nice drink to compliment the heavy taste of Omaya’s cheesy food.
