Japanese buffet is quite popular among Malaysians. Munakata Ramen at Jalan Yap Kwan Seng recently offers an unlimited ala carte Japanese buffet dinner promotion. The Japanese buffet promotion is priced at RM60+ for an adult and RM35+ for a young person aged 4 to 10 years old.
Salmon Sashimi aka fresh sliced salmon is the most appealing dish in the menu. Well, I have to admit that I love rare salmon. Just dip it with some wasabi soaked with soya sauce and pop it into your mouth. Slowly taste the freshness of the fish inside your mouth.
Wanting more of the salmon dishes, we ordered Nigiri Sushi (Salmon). Vinegar was added to the rice ball and it was toppped with fresh sliced salmon.
If you prefer cooked salmon, you may try their Sake Teriyaki. The salmon coated with sweet soya sauce was grilled until cooked . The name there suggests that sake may be used here, but I am not sure whether sake was added as the description did not mention anything about sake. Can anyone clarify this?
The Unagi Kabayaki that you see here is actually a three persons portion. As there were three of us, we ordered three sets. The chef of Munakata Ramen had placed all our unagi in the same plate. Well, its better that way anyway. Lesser plates to wash.
Hotate Butter Yaki aka grilled scallops with butter is simply delicious. There is a trick before eating this dish. If you do not like the outer layer of the scallops, just remove it to reveal the white scallop. Sweet and buttery, I would say.
Another dish that I would recommend is the Soft Shell Crab Tempura. The soft shell crab was deep fried with butter. I enjoyed this dish very much.
Yakitori is the barbecued skewered chicken. This was quite alright but if compared to what I had in Sango which I had posted previously, Sango ones was better. Different chef cooks differently and everyone’s taste butt are different anyway.
Tori Tsukune Yaki which is the skewered chicken meat ball coated with savoury sauce on the other hand was quite pleasant. I enjoyed this very much.
Gyuniku Shoga Yaki, sliced beef fried with ginger sauce was very tantalising to me. The thinly sliced beef was very easy to chew and the best part is that it was not tough.
Wanting to try the vegetable dishes, we ordered the Hourensou Butter. Although the spinach were grilled with butter, it wasn’t very oily. Just nice I would say.
Saba Shioyaki. The Mackerel was slowly grilled with salt leaving the outer texture of the skin crunchy. (Pardon me for the blurred picture. lol).
Shishamo, grilled smelt fish or also famously known as the pregnant fish was quite yummy. A bite will release all the fish eggs into your mouth. Do not order this is you feel horrid eating fish eggs.
The Umaki Tamago was quite normal – grilled eel wrapped in the cooked egg.
Teppan-Yaki Seafood, a tastefully done and appetizing dish. A variety of seafoods were used. Huge fresh water prawn and salmonare some of the many seafood they used to prepare this dish.
Yes, they also have deep fried squid rings here too; Furai Ika Ring. Quite ordinary hence nothing impressive to shout about but I do enjoy this dish.
Don’t be trick by the name Age Shu-Mai to mean that it was an old “siu mai”. Its just a normal fried “siu mai”.
If you fancy beef, you may also try their Japanese style Beef Steak, Gyu Saikoro Steak. Served together with some vegetables, this dish is quite filling. Best to have this with a bowl of rice.
Talking about rice brings us to Miso Soup. Although in the menu, steamed rice was placed together with miso soup, it is not necessary for you to order rice/miso soup if you just wanted miso soup/rice. However, you must mention this very clearly to your waiter.
Seafood Tofu Isobe Age – Deep fried seafood Bean-curd with Seaweed.
Tempura brinjals, mushrooms and prawns are some of the many choices of tempura style dishes available here.
Moving on to desserts, the choices here are quite limited. Hence, we only ordered the Vanilla and Green Tea
You may add additional toppings of red beans on the green-tea ice cream. Below are some of the pictures we took in Munakata Ramen.
Munakata Ramen charges RM10.00 for every unfinished dish and take-away is not allowed too. Hence, just order appropriately according to your appetite for that day.
