I find it particularly hard to pick a meal whenever I dine in a fusion restaurant. Asian or western? Which do they cook better? And since it was our first time to Marmalade Cafe and not knowing what to expect, we decided to order a fusion of both cuisines.
We ordered their Rice Pilaf with Asian Green – Poached Salmon Fillet at RM26.00 from their Asian Menu. It is basically salmon cooked with creamy sauce served with chinese fried rice along with chinese “nai bak” and salad. Presentation wise, it looks really appetizing. Sad to say, the salmon and fried rice taste good individually but together, it just doesn’t blend well together. The salmon was very creamy and the starchiness of the rice just makes everything taste really “heavy”.
We also ordered Marmalade Cafe’s Moroccan Lamb Shank @ RM26.00 which is also from their Asian Menu. This time, we were served with the same Chinese fried rice, some chinese “nai bak” and a lamb shank. Although the portion does looks really big and for some it is money’s worth, both the fried rice and lamb shank doesn’t “click” together very well.
If you are planning to dine at Marmalade Cafe, do not make the same mistakes like we had that day. Order something else other than the above or order them invidually. Their Pumpkin Soup @ RM11.00 a bowl is quite good though.
If you intend to dine here, you may check their menu at their Official Website.
