I’ve heard a lot about the curry mee at Jalan Alor and mostly they are good reviews. But I didn’t try it until recently. The stall opens around 1pm and closes at about 10pm daily. Other than their signature curry mee, this Jalan Alor stall also sells other noodles such as asam laksa, chicken slices and prawn noodle, dry noodle, prawn noodle, beef ball soup noodle and fish ball soup noodle.
It is not an easy task handling a noodle stall at Jalan Alor which is in the middle of Kuala Lumpur. The expectation of a bowl of curry noodle here is very high. This is probably the only place tourists from all over the world come to sample a bowl of curry mee. Her curry mee must be good enough to make us Malaysian proud. To cater to the first-timers (tourists) and locals alike, she prepare a large pot of curry soup every day. She starts early in the morning, preparing the curry soup and clear broth soup. And in the afternoon, she opens up her stall and work until late at night.
Jalan Alor curry mee is good. It is the authentic KL curry mee with thick spicy and savoury broth. It comes with cockles, some slices of chicken, long bean, beans sprout and brinjal.
As for the asam laksa, taste wise, it is on point. But the broth will be better if she had mashed the mackerel up with the broth to make the soup thicker. Nevertheless, it is good. Some hae kow / prawn paste and chili padi are also given separately if you wish your asam laksa to be more spicy and flavourful.
