Kak Ton D’Condo’s ikan bakar can be found in the middle of Taman Segambut. This is the place where you could get really good ikan bakar without any burned parts at all. There are a few choices of fish here, from pari to keli and ikan kembung to cencaru, everything is grilled fresh upon order. Banana leaves are used to wrap the fishes, preventing them from getting burn. Depending on the type of fish and the size of it, the cooking time is about 10 to 15 minutes.
My ikan kembung took about 10 minutes to be cooked. Since this is a self-service eatery, you are expected to queue and wait for your fish to be cooked. In the meantime, you could scoop yourself some sauce to go with your fish.
There are two types of sauces – sweet soya sauce with red chili padi and onions; and sweet, sour and spicy sauce with green chili padi. Both were equally good and they paired very well with the ikan bakar. There is no burn at all on my fish. It was marinated and cooked through perfectly.
Other than ikan bakar, there was an array of everyday dishes which you could choose from. The fried chicken (ayam goreng berempah) is another favourite dish here. You could see the crowd quickly snatched up the fried chicken the moment it came out from the wok. The aromatic ayam goreng berempah was juicy on the inside and crunchy on the outside.
If you are worried about seating area, don’t. They have many tables which stretch all the way to the end of the roadside.
Ikan bakar and nasi campur are available from 7.00am to 3.00pm from Mondays to Saturdays. They are also open from 5.00pm to 12.00am, but they only Thai food.
