Green Lane Noodles occupies the back half of an end-lot shop in Cheras and they serve good authentic Penang food. They have a limited menu. There are only 5 main items on the menu and they are Penang Prawn Mee, Penang White Curry Mee, Penang Hokkien Char, Duck Meat Koay Teow Soup and Penang Rojak.
We drove all the way from Kepong to Taman Desa Bukit Cahaya, Cheras and our whole one-way trip there took us about 45 minutes. Our long journey there and back thereafter were compensated with the good Penang food we had at Green Lane Noodles. We were actually quite pleased with the food here because they had stayed very close to authentic thing you find in Penang.
Penang White Curry Mee
We had the Penang White Curry Mee @ RM6.00. It came ‘white’ with absolutely no curry chili paste whatsoever. A spoonful of the curry chili paste is actually sufficient but if you like your white curry mee thicker, just add any amount of additional paste into your bowl of noodles to suit your liking. Everything about this Penang White Curry Mee is right here except the missing pork blood cubes.
Penang Prawn Mee
The Penang Prawn Mee was simply delicious. The broth is clear but rich in flavour. Stiring in the sambal chili paste made it even tastier. It may not look good here but it taste good.
Penang Hokkien Char
Lastly, we had the Penang Hokkien Char. It is quite difficult to get a good Penang Hokkien Char and I find the alkaline taste quite heavy. It would be better in my opinion that they do more to minimise the alkaline taste. The sambal belacan chili helped to balance everything out.
