Recently, there is a picture circling the internet showing three bowls of delicious looking durian cendols. The durian cendols looks so tempting that I told myself that I’ve got to try this dessert no matter what. I love both, cendol and durian, individually. But together? Now that is something I’ve never tried before. The idea of a combination of cendol and durian had never crossed my mind and I can’t help but wonder how it would taste like together.
So we looked through the internet and found that this dessert is available at one of the stalls at Medan Selera Delima Seksyen 24, Shah Alam. Knowing that this place is quite popular among the locals, we decided to go very early. The stall opens at 6.00pm but there was already a crowd even when we arrived at 5.00pm that weekend.
We were told that they only take orders starting from 6.00pm but by 5.30pm people had already started queuing up. As durians are not currently in season, our cendols were served with Thai durians, durian tembaga, to be exact. Each bowl costs RM12.00. You may also opt for a smaller portion for RM10.00 each.
The price of a durian cendol depends very much on the type of durian used. So if musang king or D24 are in season, the price may be slightly higher. Even though musang king and D24 durians are local durians and the price are slightly higher than Thai durians, they are better in taste and grade when compared to Thai durians. I personally wouldn’t mind paying the extra just to have a better tasting dessert.
According to the owner of this place, they are the only place in Malaysia which offers more than 100 different flavours of cendols. The only one that is popular here is obviously the durian cendol.
The cendol itself is sweet and milky and is actually quite good. The cendol when paired with the creamy and sweet durian elevates the humble bowl of cendol. It would be better if musang king is available.
