Dolly Dimsum is an all-day halal dim sum restaurant located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur – more specifically, it is located at Avenue K, KL.
We had earlier planned to have our breakfast at Hee Lai Ton in Shaw Parade, Pudu but was forced to change our plan as we were too late. It was only 11.00 am in the morning and the restaurant had ran out of dim sum.
So we had no choice but to go to Dolly Dimsum as most good dim sum restaurants in Kuala Lumpur either had finished selling their dim sums or no longer offer dim sum after 11.00am.
Dolly dim sum’s menu is quite extensive. Almost everything on the menu is still available even though we arrive so late in the morning, at about 11.00am. We ordered the BBQ Puff Pastry which is quite good – crispy and puffy skin – lots of fillings – salty and scrumptious puff.
We also had the Crystal Prawn Dumplings which are good – taste wise but the skin was too thick and the whole skin skin tore apart the moment we picked it up from the basket.
The Egg Custard Bun was quite decent. It would be better if it has more filling.
Siew Mai was surprising good considering that they are halal dim sum restaurant. My critic on this dish is that it doesn’t look good and it looks messy – it’s like someone just threw the siew mai into the basket and serve it.
The Beef Balls texture is quite off. You could feel the nerve of the beef when you bite the beef balls – which shows that they didn’t cut and mince the beef balls correctly. Not the most pleasant thing to eat.
The Wasabi Prawn has got to be the ugliest dim sum I’ve ever seen. It looks oily – the puff was soaked in oil. This is the most disgusting dim sum here.
The Mango delight was quite bland. It wasn’t sweet enough. The mango purée is quite diluted.
This is the first time and my last time dining here. There are far too many dim sum restaurants which deserves our attention.
