There are quite many bak kut teh restaurant in Kepong and Restoran Kai Tian is one of them. Restoran Kai Tian offers the normal soup version of bak kut teh and braised version. If you prefer the dry version of bak kut teh, you won’t be able to get it here. After eating bak kut teh for so many years, I’m quite frankly more incline to the soup and dry versions. The braised version, not so much.
Restoran Kai Tian’s braised version of bak kut teh is quite good and is a good substitute to the normal dry bak kut teh. The broth is heavy and quite flavourful. It has a little sticky feeling after each spoon. It is probably due to the pork fats. We had ours with the half-fat and half-meat cuts for our braised version.
For the soup version, we ordered the pork ribs with some meat balls. The soup is light with very heavy garlic and herb taste. Quite good, but I prefer Lim Kee’s better. It taste nothing like the Klang’s version as the bak kut teh in Klang are mostly heavily flavoured and the soup is very much thicker.
As for rice, you may choose either normal rice or rice with fried onions and onion oil. The rice with onions more fragrant and is much sweeter in taste. Personally, I would recommend you to try the one with fried onions as it pair much better with the bak kut teh.
