Silver Spoon Trattoria at Bandar Menjalara, Kepong

Posted by Apple Foodees On August - 10 - 2011

I’ve no idea why it took me so long to visit Silver Spoon Trattoria. Probably its because there were far too many food bloggers who had blogged for Silver Spoon. As most of them were being invited for reviews, this had made me skeptical whether or not to trust their reviews as being honestly written or not. To prevent myself from jumping to conclusion, I decided to try their set lunch first.

Each set comes with a starter, a main meal and dessert. Drinks were not included in the set meals. For starters we ordered the Stuffed Mushrooms and the Crumbed Calamari. Look at these entrees, ain’t it beautiful? I’ve got to give the credit to the chef who made the entrees. They look stunning. Taste wise however was okay -nothing surprising.

The same goes with the Crumbed Calamari. Some other entrees that you may order are their Tomato Bruschetta and the soup of the day.

Crumbed Calamari

As for the main meal, I ordered the Fish (Dory Fillet) and Chips. The fish was fresh and it tastes really good. Enough seasoning and it was not oily at all. The only problem with this meal were the fries. I don’t normally waste my food, but the fries was so bad that I ended up throwing a quarter of it away.

Fish&Chips

The Hawaiian Pizza that VK ordered fare much better than my fish and chips. This 6-inch pizza is not only thin and crispy, but it was prepared with reasonable amount of toppings.

For dessert, I ordered their Banana Crepes. The crepes goes really well with the ice-cream as the crepes was a little bit bitter. I guest they added a little bit of alcohol in it, hence the bitter taste.

Ferringhi Garden at Batu Ferringhi, Penang

Posted by Apple Foodees On March - 4 - 2011

Last month, VK and I went to Batu Ferringhi, Penang before the Chinese New Year. As usual we searched the internet before embarking on our journey to search for good food. After looking through a couple of blogs, we came across Feringgi Garden.

It is not very easy to locate this restaurant from the main road as their restaurant signboard is a bit hidden. We knew that Ferringhi Garden is located after The Ship restaurant, but still, we had to made a few rounds before finding it. Not knowing that they provide free carparks behind their restaurant, we ended up parking outside and had to pay some parking fees. So if you are coming to Ferringhi Garden, do not make the same mistakes as us. Before heading over to talk about what we had, I have to apologise that I do not have many pictures. I had forgotten to charge my batteries. Haha!

Fish

I ordered their Fish Set and if I am not mistaken, the fish served here is Red Snapper. We also ordered their fruit juice, and I got to say that it doesn’t come cheap. RM10 for a glass of freshly pressed juice.

For your information, Ferringhi Garden had recently just won the cleanest and most pleasant restaurant in Penang. They are open from 2.00pm to 12.00am everyday.

Las Vacas Steak Shop at SS5, Kelana Jaya (Halal)

Posted by Apple Foodees On March - 2 - 2011

Not many of us Malaysian actually knows the trick in enjoying the best of steaks. I didn’t know it until VK brought me to Maria’s Cafe at Damansara Perdana. Since then, we began to search around for better steak house, but unfortunately, until today, we have not found any better steak houses around Petaling Jaya and Kuala Lumpur. Las Vacas at SS5, Kelana Jaya is one of the steak house that we found in our search.

VK ordered their Ribeye Angus which is priced at RM28/100gm. The owner will recommend you the portion depending on how you want your meat to be done. You can also choose it directly from the counter. Then they will weight and send it to the kitchen to prepare your steak.

I on the other hand, chose Las Vacas’ Ribeye Grain Fed priced at RM23/100gm. The owner recommended me to get 200gm as they have difficulty preparing it medium-rare for meat that weights less than 200gm. Knowing that I wouldn’t be able to finish it, I took the chance and got myself only a three-quarter of that portion.

Lucky for me, it was good. But to compare mine with VK’s, his steak is much better. Read the rest of this entry »
