Premium Beef Steaks at Maria’s Cafe, Damansara Perdana

Posted by Apple Foodees On December - 18 - 2011

It’s a week before Christmas. Have you made any Christmas dinner plans yet? If not, may I introduce you to Maria’s Cafe, a restaurant which serves one of the best steak in town. They are popular for it’s quality premium beef steaks, namely, the Japanese Kobe, Australian Wagyu and Australian Black Angus.

If you have never tried Kobe before, you should at least try it once. I know, the price for Kobe doesn’t quite fit most of our budgets. But if you are feeling posh or just simply need to satisfy your desire to try the best steak in the world (Kobe), do try Maria’s Cafe. Alternatively, there are many other cheaper options. We tried Maria’s Cafe Australian Black Angus recently.

Australian Black Angus

We ordered our Australian Black Angus medium rare with a tag price of Rm42/100gm. The difference between a Kobe with Black Angus is the marbling. Kobe has more ‘fats’ as compared to Black Angus. Therefore, Black Augus is slightly more chewy.

Seafood Pasta

If you do not like beef, pastas are available here too. To be very honest, we prefer not to order pastas at all as we had had bad experiences with pastas. Most restaurants tend to give more noodles and skimp on the ingredients. However after persuaded by the lady boss herself, we ordered the Seafood Pasta. Maria’s Cafe Seafood Pastas are fully loaded with fresh seafood ingredients. That was my first impression. Fresh prawns, mussels and pieces of salmon. What a surprise. Priced at Rm24, Maria’s Seafood Pasta is just perfect. Very yummy.

Spicy New Zealand Mussels

Spicy New Zealand Mussels was our appetizer for the night. It was sweet and spicy at the same time. A plate of Spicy New Zealand Mussels is priced at RM16, comes with 6 fresh mussels paired up with some garlic bread.

Wagyu Steak – S’Mores at Bangsar South

Posted by Apple Foodees On December - 7 - 2011

Wagyu beef is known worldwide for it’s high market value, thanks to its marbling characteristics which enhanced its flavour, tenderness and juiciness of the meat. In my opinion, no matter how good the quality of an ingredient, the main thing is whether the chef knows the correct way to cook it or not. That is one of the main thing that makes the difference in every dish that comes out of a kitchen.

I have recently purchased a Groupon coupon on ,Groupon website. The thing that caught my attention was that S’Mores was offering this RM39.90 Wagyu set meals. I thought this could be a good deal, considering the quality of the meat served.

S'Mores Restaurant

S’Mores is located in Bangsar South, and no it is not even close to Bangsar at all. Lucky us, we had our Garmin GPS device which directed us directly to S’Mores. When we arrive at S’Mores, there is a crowd of customers sitting outside, enjoying S’mores barbecue night. The restaurant looks fine considering that it was just opened recently. I showed them my coupon and we took our seats.

Mushroom.Soup

Then, our mushroom soup came. It was a little disappointing as the mushroom soup was cold. Taste wise, it was okay – it was too diluted.

Wagyu.Beef

Our wagyu beef came next. It came on this horrendous-looking plate. It just looks cheap. Just like the earlier mushroom soup, it was served cold. I know I am paying a low price for this expensive piece of meat. But, isn’t the whole purpose of advertising and giving discounted meals to customers from coupon website is to introduce the restaurant to them rather than chasing them away?
