Pinang Lanta Seafood Steamboat Restaurant at Kepong

Posted by Apple Foodees On March - 12 - 2012

Last week was a very hectic week. The weather wasn’t very good too. It rained so heavily that many parts of Kuala Lumpur were flooded. Since it was a rainy season, again, we found ourselves hunting for steamboat restaurants. So we were to Pinang Lanta Seafood Restaurant. Pinang Lanta Seafood Restaurant is not only a normal seafood restaurant, but here they also serves steamboat.

The ingredients served here are quite different from the other steamboat restaurants in Kepong. I suppose the suppliers that they use are not the same as the rest. Compared to their neighbour Happy City, Penang Lanta Seafood Restaurant seafood ingredients are fresh, but not the freshest that you can find here. It was nevertheless good enough.

There are a number of choices of soup base. Looking through the menu, we decided to go with something different from the common plain chicken stock soup, the Garoupa and Yam Soup for RM16.90. There are many pieces of garoupa fish fleshes which we didn’t expect at all. For only Rm16.90 a person for garoupa base soup, this is one of the best soup bases I find in a steamboat restaurant.

Steamboat Restaurant Hao Jie, Kepong

Posted by Apple Foodees On February - 21 - 2012

Any steamboat “makan” session will not be good if the ingredients are not fresh. What differentiate from one steamboat restaurant to another is it’s ingredients. For a long time, I have been to many steamboat restaurants around Kepong and so far the best for me is Happy City Steamboat Restaurant. Today, I have found another close competitor to Happy City, that is Hao Jie Steamboat Restaurant, which is located further down the street from the former.

Steamboat Ingredients

Without wasting much time, I’ll just dive into the best part of our seafood ingredient first. Hao Jie Steamboat Restaurant serves really Fresh Crabs (with crab roe). Hao Jie’s crab roe are much cheaper compared to Ho Ho Steamboat at Segambut. Look at the beautiful bright orange coloured roes.

White Pomphret Fish was also fresh that day and we decided to order one. Our fish was priced at RM18, a 100gram for RM6. Even though the fish was very fresh, I didn’t enjoyed it as much as the crabs. I guess, steamboat is not the correct way to enjoy this fish. It should instead be steamed lightly with soya sauce and ginger.

Steamboat Kitchen Lin Yuan at Cheras, Kuala Lumpur

I have been going around for steamboat recently and Lin Yuan Steamboat Kitchen is one of them. One this special about Lin Yuan is that, not only they serve steamboat meals they also serves chinese cuisines such as crabs and etc.. Lin Yuan also claims that they do not add any MSGs in their soup base.

We ordered a Set Steamboat Meal for two, priced at RM14.90 per person.

Lin Yuan specialty is their ‘Golden Pumpkin Porridge” soup base. As pumpkins are rich in vitamins, this is a very healthy choice for many. I really recommend this. We were charged Rm4.50 for the pumpkin porridge soup.

There are many choices of ingredients if the ones in the sets are not enough. We ordered their Imported Beef Slices, priced at RM15.00. The thinly slices of beef was quite expensive considering the amount that was given, but nevertheless, it was really good.
