I have been receiving smses from Nagomi Shabu-Shabu Japanese Restaurant recently regarding their buffet promotion. For only RM32.80++ an adult and RM18.80 for children age between 5 – 12 years old), each customers are given a pot of their very own soup (no sharing) and over 80 choices of shabu-shabu ingredients, sushis, sashimis and desserts.

The main highlight for Nagomi’s buffet is their unlimited salmon sashimis which are only available from 8.00pm to 9.00pm everyday. Since we are a big fan of salmon sashimis and trusting that Nagomi serves good salmon sashimi, we are overjoyed with the offer. Even though the salmon wasn’t as good as we though it would be, but we didn’t mind it as the the shabu-shabu itself was very good.

In order to make your soup tasty, just place all the seafood ingredients you can find along with some chinese cabbage, carrots and leeks just like I did. After a few minutes, your soup will turn from bland and tasteless soup to one of the most delicious soup you ever tasted. Nagomi does give really good base soup.

Nagomi serves really fresh seafood ingredients and this is evident just by looking at the pictures of these fresh prawns. Some of the other seafood they have here are red snappers, bamboo clams, clams and slipper lobsters.

Verona Trattoria Italian Restaurant, Section 17 – Petaling Jaya

Posted by Apple Foodees On January - 18 - 2012

Verona Trattoria has just open recently in Section 17, Petaling Jaya. And I am so thrilled to have been invited by Silvia to do a food review for them. As both the owners are not locals, currently, Verona Trattoria is having a different “special of the day” menus every week to imrprove and better themselves to suit the Malaysian taste buds. If you have been to Italy, you should know that Italian food are bland. After testing out their menus before opening their doors to the public, I find that their food had been cooked to suit our local taste buds. I think it would be safe to say that they serves localised Italian food.

I had this Medium Rare Grilled Salmon with Lemon Butter priced at RM32. If you do not like salmon, you can also order seabass priced at RM30. I must say, that the salmon was cooked very well. Before this, I didn’t know that salmon can be cooked partially and rare at the same time. So I was quite surprised when Silvia asked me whether I wanted my salmon medium-cooked or well-done. According to her, in order to better enjoy salmon, we can also order it medium-rare. Now this is one thing that I am interested to try one day.

We also ordered the Bascaiola Pizza @ RM24. Beef sausages, mushrooms and mozzarella cheese are the main ingredients in this crispy pizza. If you are adventurous enough, you can try their specialty here, the Napoletana Pizza where tomatoes, anchovies, olives and mozzarella cheese are the main ingredients in this pizza.

Another special that week was the Risotto with Safron and Three Types of Mushrooms @ RM34. This dish may look very ordinary to you but it was very tasty. Arborio rice was used here. It was creamy and at the same time slightly firm to bite. Delicious!

As for dessert, we had Vanilla Panna Cotta @ RM10, a traditional Italian Vanilla Pudding served with chocolate cream anglaise.

Okuchi Japanese Restaurant at Dataran Sunway, Kota Damansara

Posted by Apple Foodees On October - 11 - 2011

We were shopping at Sunway Giza Mall, Kota Damansara when we met a friend who then recommended us to try Okuchi, a Japanese restaurant for dinner. Okuchi is just a short walk from Sunway Giza Mall and it is located strategically in the middle of Dataran Sunway.

salmon.sashimi

VK, as usual ordered his Salmon Sashimi. This beautifully decorated sashimi was very fresh. I find the portion for this is a little bit too small. I guess good stuffs only comes in small portion. That way, we tend to treasure it more.

soft.shell.crab.sushi

Our order, Soft Shell Crab Sushi comes next. In contrast to salmon sashimi, the soft shell crab isn’t soft at all. It was really crunchy in the middle.

We also ordered another version of the soft shell crab which was the Deep Fried Soft Shell Crab with Mayonaise. Like the earlier one, the soft shell crab was really good. Really crunchy.

meat.balls

Afraid that he might get hungry later, VK also ordered their meatballs. Personally, I find the texture of the meat balls a little bit too soft. It will be better if it was a bit more chewy. Sad to say, after a few bites, we got tired of it.
