One of the main highlight here is their Fried Seafood. Diners are allowed to first choose their ingredients from prawns, clams to sea crabs. After passing your plate to the chefs, they will first boil it in hot water. When the seafood is ready, it will be fried over big fire, adding sauces and chili paste along the way. It was really good, the seafood are fresh. So, even if the queue is really long, just queue for it. You will not regret it.

Thai Garden Village at Jinjang, Kuala Lumpur

Posted by Apple Foodees On August - 16 - 2011

I was having my exam last month and like everyone else, I didn’t have the mood to eat. All I can think of is to get my stomach filled and to continue studying until the day of my exam. But VK told me that if I want to do well in my exams, one of the most important thing I have to do is to make my stomach happy. “What will make your stomach happy if not for good food”, he says. And so, very reluctantly, I grab my gears and we head on to Thai Garden Village.

As it was the first time we were at Thai Garden Village, we ordered their restaurant favourites – steamed lala. The lalas were imported from the Phillipines, and I got to say that this is the best steamed lala I’ve ever tasted. It was really fresh and tasty. Thai Garden Village is very generous with their ingredients, look at the amount of garlics and gingers on our lalas.

Claypot Crab with Vermicille is one their recommended dish too. The crab is so huge that it was crammed to fit the claypot. This is the biggest crab that I’ve eaten. It was really meaty. The only down side to this dish is that the vermicille was a little bit too salty towards the end.

Kang Kung belacan – one of the best that I’ve ever had.

Kangkung

Barbeque Squid was a little bit rubbery. I didn’t really like it because it attracts a lot of flies to our table.

‘Klasik’ Satay Station at Taman Ehsan, Kepong

Posted by Apple Foodees On August - 5 - 2011

I didn’t know about Klasik Satay until recently, a reader suggested me to try out their satays. He claims that Klasik Satay is so good that many influential people actually travels all the way here to have their satays. Curious to know more about this satay stall, we went there one weekend to try them out. And to my surprise, my reader was actually right. I find that Klasik Satay could be only one which serves best satays in the Klang Valley. Much better than the famous Kajang satay, Hj. Samuri.

The first obvious reason why I say they are one of the best is because of the smell of the satay when it was served. We were told by the cook himself that their satays are made in the original way. He claims that most satay stalls actually skips this one crucial ingredient in preparing satay. The secret ingredient in preparing really good satays is the oily baste. I don’t know what is this oily baste, but I can tell you, it really makes a lot of difference.

I have always prefered chicken satays compared to beef satays. But this time, the beef satays got my attention. It was so tender and flavourful. Chicken satays on the other hand was slightly tough.

Meatworks Dining and Retail Butchery Shop at Solaris Mont Kiara

Posted by Apple Foodees On May - 20 - 2011

MeatWorks is a halal fresh dining restaurant and retail butchery shop. At Meatworks, you are given more control to choose the type of meat, the size and the way you want it done just like how you would do when you do your home cooking. It saves you the hassle of having to go through the process of cooking.

Meatworks.BYO.Burger

I had Meatworks’ B.Y.O. Burger priced at RM26. The first few bites were okay, but it gets really boring towards the end. The burger patty was a little bit too dry to my likings.

Steak.Bone.in.Fillet

Meatworks’ Steak Bone in Fillet priced at RM69 on the other hand was much better than what I had. But unfortunately, our order wasn’t prepared the way we wanted it. VK ordered it “medium-rare” and he got a “medium-cooked” meat.

Satay Station at Kampung Pandan, Kuala Lumpur

Posted by Apple Foodees On April - 11 - 2011

There is seriously a huge competition for the best satay restaurant in Malaysia. For the longest time, Kajang Satay holds the name for the best place in Malaysia for satay. Today, I dare to say that there are many other alternatives around which offers better satays elsewhere.

One good alternative to Kajang Satay would be Satay Station at Kampung Pandan, Kuala Lumpur. Satay Station are known for their gigantic sized satays. There are only two options: chicken or satay. Each stick is priced at RM0.80. Besides that, each serving are served with big chucks of ketupat rice, cucumbers and onions.

Satay

Even the nuts in their satay sauce are magnified. Quite nice. But if I were to compare their sauce with Kuantan’s Satay Zul sauce, I would honestly say that Satay Zul’s sauce are better. Each are different and distinct in their own way.

Las Vacas Steak Shop at SS5, Kelana Jaya (Halal)

Posted by Apple Foodees On March - 2 - 2011

Not many of us Malaysian actually knows the trick in enjoying the best of steaks. I didn’t know it until VK brought me to Maria’s Cafe at Damansara Perdana. Since then, we began to search around for better steak house, but unfortunately, until today, we have not found any better steak houses around Petaling Jaya and Kuala Lumpur. Las Vacas at SS5, Kelana Jaya is one of the steak house that we found in our search.

VK ordered their Ribeye Angus which is priced at RM28/100gm. The owner will recommend you the portion depending on how you want your meat to be done. You can also choose it directly from the counter. Then they will weight and send it to the kitchen to prepare your steak.

Ribeye-Angus

I on the other hand, chose Las Vacas’ Ribeye Grain Fed priced at RM23/100gm. The owner recommended me to get 200gm as they have difficulty preparing it medium-rare for meat that weights less than 200gm. Knowing that I wouldn’t be able to finish it, I took the chance and got myself only a three-quarter of that portion.

Ribeye-Grain-Fed

Lucky for me, it was good. But to compare mine with VK’s, his steak is much better. Read the rest of this entry »
