PappaRich @ Kepong Baru

The Manhattan Fish Market

In the last few years, it seems kopitiams are making a comeback scene in Malaysia. Everywhere you go in Klang Valley or maybe Penang, you will have no trouble spotting kopitiams.  It looks like there is a serious competition among all the kopitiams with which kopitiam has the most branches in Malaysia?  According to my own observation, Old Town Kopitiam is booming with success and it seems to fair better than the rest.

Well, I am really not a fan of modern “kopitiams” but these shops are springing up everywhere!  Short of time to go for lunch, we decided to give PappaRich a go.

The Coffee Connoisseur - TCC @ Wisma Atria, Singapore

Devil's Cake

The Coffee Connoisseur (TCC), as the name implies is an expert able to appreciate a field; specially in fine arts. It seems that they are very good in their coffee. Well, as I had my coffee fix in the morning, I opted not to have any that night.

The Devil’s Chocolate caught my attention the minute I stepped into the restaurant. As a huge fans of chocolate I had to get my hands on this one. It has a thin layer of dark chocolate above, followed by coffee mousse, and another layer of dark chocolate cake at the bottom layer. Sweet red raspberries and a chocolate cookie were used as decorative toppings for the cake. This heart melting Devil’s Chocolate was priced at $6.80 per piece.

Ipoh White Coffee @ Sun Yuan Foong Coffee Shop in Ipoh

Posted by Apple Foodees On November - 8 - 2009

Ipoh is famous for its Old Town White Coffee, but what other food can you have with your favourite cup of coffee?

Sun Yuan Foong is claimed to be the one offering the “real” original white coffee meanwhile their rival, Sun Yuan Loong, is runned by a close relative of them. Hence, you should know by now why I chose to have my meal here, lol.

We did not manage to try all the available foods offered by Sun Yuan Foong, but these are some of them that we had tried.

Toast Sandwich

We ordered the cheese and ham sandwich to complement with a warm cup of white coffee. Nothing really special about this meal. It is so obvious that the sandwich was made by using a sandwich maker. The ingredient was just enough for me. Not too much and not too little. More room for me to have my Ipoh “Nga Choy Gai” later.

Egg Toast

Another set we ordered is the toast bread with sausage and a half boiled egg. This is a typical set which is recommended here. Although it is a very simple dish, but dining here along with this toasted bread set coupled with their famous white coffee does brings back the olden days feelings.

If you fancy making your own toast bread at home but also want to have Sun Yuan Foong’s white coffee, you may purchase their white coffee powder from them. If you haven’t try Ipoh’s famous White Coffee, I truly recommend this place. The old building together with their old menus will definitely bring back a lot of olden days memories about this place. I would consider this place is a must-go place for a tourist visiting Ipoh. Note that, they are not open at night. They normally closes at about 6pm.

The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf

Coffee Bean

The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf is currently facing very tough challenges since the mushrooming of a more modern franchised kopitiams such as Old Town Kopitiam and many others.

In earlier times, drinking a cup of coffee here is like buying branded items. But now, nobody cares. As long as the coffee is good, there will be people flocking to buy it.

Caramel Macchiato is Coffee Bean’s latest promotional drink. The Macchiato Coffee is served hot with some caramel toppings. This cup of coffee is priced at RM11.80.

Ahh….coffee. It keeps you awake and also helps you to keep going. Being a normal person, I never fail to get my coffee fix everyday. Well, normally I will wake myself up with a nice cup of 3-in-1 Old Town Coffee. But today I had an exceptionally long and tiring day from work, so I rewarded myself with a cup of coffee from Coffee Bean.
