It was the day that everyone’s been waiting for. The actual day of the Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2016. 35,000 participants from all categories participate in one of the biggest marathon event in Kuala Lumpur. It was a privilege to be able to run and walk with all participants in the 10km category today.
Here’s a quick run down on what happened today.
Since we joined the 10km (Leisure category), our start time was at 7.45am. By 7.25am, those who had joined the 10km were allowed to walk as close as possible to the starting line. Since it was so crowded, we were only able to reach the starting line after about 1 or 2 minutes after the run had started.
From Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman (Sogo), we had to run along Jalan Dang Wangi, Jalan Sultan Ismail, all the way down to Menara UOA, and turn towards Jalan Raja Chulan. The first water and medical station were located around Menara Bank Islam.
At this water station, water and 100 Plus was available for all participants. Sad to say that this was the only station that offered 100 Plus. The rest of the other 3 stations, only water was given.
After a drink, we then continued our run along Jalan P. Ramlee towards the twin tower, KLCC. From KLCC, we turned towards Jalan Ampang and continued on until we were back to Jalan Sultan Ismail. This time, we turned to the right and continued all the way down to Jalan Kuching. The second medical and water station were located around the Monorail Medan Tuanku Station. No isotonic water was given but only mineral water.
Thereafter, we continued along Jalan Kuching up until Bank Negara Malaysia and made a turn to the right towards Jalan Parlimen.
Along the way, there were signs showing the number of kilometers covered. We were also reminded to go across the check points to record our time and pace.
From Jalan Parlimen we continued towards KL Bird Park. There was a sponge, water and medical station here.
We continued from the KL Bird Park all the way to Masjid Negara. The fourth medical and water station were located around this area. At this point in time, many can be seen picking up their pace and run towards the finish line as it was only another about 2km to go before they cross the finish line.
It was a beautiful sight running towards the finish line. Many can be seen cheering and taking pictures as we ran passed Muzium Sejarah Nasional towards the finish line at Dataran Merdeka.
Unfortunately I did not take a picture before the finish line as I was too eager to finish my run. But here’s the back of it.
After our run, we were escorted to Dataran Merdeka to collect our goodie bags. Those who had finished the 10km run were given a green recyclable Honda bag, a few pieces of bananas, one isotonic drink – 100 plus, one bottle of water and a finisher medal. A massage centre was also available for those who require a quick massage. The massage was priced at RM20.00 only.
Below are some amazing full-marathoner (42km) who were on their way to the finish line.
It was great to be able to run and walk (most of the time) with many Malaysians today. Health is important. I hope that more of you will participate in similar events like this to improve your health. A 10km run may seem like something unachievable especially for those who had not joined a run like this.
This is my first time participating a 10km run and as a beginner, I still manage to finish it. Once you do it and you keep pushing yourself to do it, eventually you will complete it. So don’t give up and good luck to you.
