Sek Yuen Restaurant is one of the many old Chinese restaurants in Kuala Lumpur still existing until today. After more than 60 years, this restaurant remain popular among the locals here. I got to admit, I didn’t know about this place until it was pointed out by VK’s friend. The restaurant is located in two old buildings located side by side, one with air-conditioning and other without air-conditioning. Although the buildings are separated from each other, the foods are cooked in one kitchen, so here will be no difference dining in different building.
To start off our dinner, we ordered their Sharks Fin Omellete. Uncooked green salads are given as a wrapper for this dish. So you can either have it with rice or wrap it with the salad given.
One of the dish I really like here is their Bitter Gourd Beef with Black Bean Sauce. Remember to ask the chef to prepare it slightly under cooked. This way, you will enjoy the beef better.
Deep Fried Pork Balls- very compact and it goes really well with it’s sauce.
Sweet and Sour Pork.
Steam Red Tillapia. The fish was very fresh. No mud taste or whatsoever.
Roast Duck is one of the favourite item here. It is recommended if you are coming here with a large group of people. Quite pricey, but still, it’s a recommended dish here.
Here, you could opt for a normal rice or steamed rice. Both are the same rice but are cooked differently. But if you are ordering their steamed rice, be prepared as the steamed rice could be overcooked and thus a little bit hard and lumpy. That of course, depends on your luck on that day.

Ya, it is advisable to go and try this place, because the sifu may retire from cooking in the near future.
I don’t know if it’s still around, but this reminds me of a malaysian restaurant in London called Kiasu. http://www.kiasu.co.uk — Not sure if it’s still around? Nasi lemak etc…
Yes, they are still there. But they are definitely a different type of restaurant compared to Kiasu.
