McQuek’s Satay Celup Restaurant is located on a banglo lot, a house turned a restaurant. Among all the satay celup restaurants, we’ve been to, McQuek’s Satay Celup Restaurant is the cleanest and spacious satay celup restaurant we found so far. There are plenty of seats when we arrived at about 6.00pm that weekend evening. Unlike the more popular satay celup restaurants, such as Ban Lee Siang Satay Celup, there was no queue for tables here (which is great).
If you do not know what satay celup is all about, this is how it looks like. Satay Celup is essentially a dish where an assortment of raw and semi-cooked seafood, meat (including raw meat) and vegetables on skewers are dunked into a hot boiling pot of satay gravy.
The satay gravy is not the typical satay gravy you would normally find at a satay stall. The thick brown gravy is cooked separately and upon serving, crumbles of peanut are added into the thick gravy sauce, making it a delicious sauce which goes very well with the cooked seafood, meat, vegetables and processed food on sticks.
There are many choices of ingredients available here. These are just some of the ingredients we took that evening. Each stick is marked with different colour. And each colour represents the different in terms of its price. So don’t expect prawns to be the same price as the vegetables.
There wasn’t any promotion when we were there. I’ve read a few blogs here and there which states that McQuek’s Satay Celup do occasionally have an all you can eat satay celup buffet or promotion in terms of the price for each stick.
That week when we were there, the sticks marked in Red are priced at RM1.00. The Green ones are priced at RM1.50 and the Blue ones are priced at RM2.50 each stick.
There are some ingredients which were stuck with 2 sticks. The tiger prawns had 2 blue sticks stuck on it, so each tiger prawn costs RM5.00. So, if you do not want to break your wallet, remember to always count the number of sticks you and your family / friends took.
Overall, our total bill was about RM50 for a meal for two. Below are the details of this restaurant. Enjoy.
