Yuk Sou Hin at WEIL Hotel
Yusheng, Yee Sang or also known as the Prosperity Toss is commonly consumed on or before the Chinese New Year. Yusheng was believed to have been created by the Cantonese community in Singapore and Malaya. One interesting fact to note is that the people in Hong Kong or China do not practise this at all. Only those in Malaysia and Singapore does this prosperity toss during the Chinese New Year.
I am very fortunate to be able to toss my first prosperity toss at Yuk Sou Hin which is located in WEIL Hotel, a hotel in Ipoh this year. We had the Salmon YuSheng with its main ingredients of raw salmon fish served with shredded vegetables and fruits with a variety of sauces and condiments.
Each ingredients when mixed together, new year greetings are conveyed to every diners by the server. Fish symbolises abundance and excess throughout the year. If prawns are added, it symbolises happy all the time. Each ingredients are added one at a time and thereafter mixed together by all the diners.
There are a few types of yusheng available at Yuk Sou Hin. The one I tried was their Salmon Yusheng. Yuk Sou Hin also serves Salmon and Fresh Fruits Yusheng; Salmon, Live Prawn and Fresh Fruits Yusheng; Salmon, Ikan Parang and Fresh Fruit Yusheng; and Salmon, Abalone and Fresh Fruit Yusheng. Yuk Sou Hin’s yusheng are available together with the set menu and ala carte.
These amazing sets of yusheng are prepared by Yuk Sou Hin’s chef Chung Ho Shi who is a Master Chef in Chinese Cuisine, a Hong Kong citizen. Master Chef Chung Ho Shi had received professional training from top chefs in numerous renowned Cantonese restaurants.
For those of you who are in Ipoh and are interested in trying Master Chef Chung’s dishes, just head over to Yuk Sou Hin at WEIL Hotel, which is located beside Ipoh Parade (now owned by Li Ka Sing). This is one Chinese restaurant which you don’t find very easily in a small town like Ipoh.
