Uncle Jang Korean Restaurant at Mont Kiara

Posted by Apple Foodees On May - 26 - 2012

I have been going around in search of good food at Mont Kiara lately. There are many Korean restaurants and the one that caught my attention when I had my lunch at Little Korea was Uncle Jang Korean Restaurant. If you have been to Maybank, Mont Kiara, it is hard to miss this huge advert board with a bald man smiling at you. Yes, that’s Uncle Jang.

Unlike the other Korean restaurants around, Dak-Galbi is Uncle Jang’s specialty. Dak-Galbi is a popular South Korean dish generally made by stir-frying marinated diced chicken in chili pepper paste based sauce, sliced cabbage, sweet potato, onions and rice cake together on a hot plate.

The minimum order for Dak-Galbi is for 2 person with a choice of either Hot Spicy or Normal. As we were not sure how spicy “hot spicy” would be, we decided to go with a hot spicy and a normal flavour. And oh boy, we made the correct decision. Even though we had mixed 1 portion of hot spicy and another normal, our Dak-Galbi was very spicy.

To start, we were first given an apron each, a box of tissue papers and a bottle of cold water. Then the whole cooking process began.

First, the hot plate was first heated up, then the marinated diced chicken, sliced cabbage, sweet potato, onions, rice cake and chili pepper paste based sauce were all thrown in and mixed together.

After stiring a few times, the noodles (ramen) was also mixed together. By this time, the smell were so intensed, that I found myself sneezing. I don’t really know what triggered me to sneeze a lot that night, but I think it has got to do with the spice they had in the sauce.

We also added come cheese and when it was finally ready, the cook just left everything on the hot plate leaving it warm for us and went on to another table to start the cooking process all over again.

Samira Thai Restaurant at Sentul Park, Kuala Lumpur

Posted by Apple Foodees On May - 1 - 2012

SAMIRA RESTAURANT – If you are looking for a restaurant away from the busy streets of Kuala Lumpur, Samira is the place to be. Managed by Asian Terrace, Samira is located within the greeneries of Sentul Park surrounded with a koi fish populated lake. Although the Koi Garden is no longer operational, koi fishes are still visible around the lake.

Samira Thai Restaurant Layout

To start off our lunch, we ordered Samira Thai’s Fish Cake @ RM16.00 for five pieces of fish cakes. It comes with a sweet and spicy sauce which goes really well with the fish cakes. The fish cakes were very flavourful but was a bit too dry. Samira’s chef is very skillful in decorating its’ dishes. I am amazed by the effort put by the chef to make each plate look beautiful. Look just how beautiful these carrot look.

Next up was Samira’s Thai Hor Mok. Hor Mok is nothing but Western-style fish mousse flavored with red curry paste, kaffir lime leaves, sugar and thickened with coconut cream. This dish goes really well with rice, and if you have not tried hor mok before, do order this. A plate of Samira Hor Mok is priced at RM23.00. This dish is loaded with squids, prawns and fish fleshes.

Samira Thai Hok Mok

Samira’s Omellete Rolls is priced at RM16.00. It was loaded with seafood ingredients, green and red peppers and other unidentified ingredients. This is one of the most flavourful omelletes I have tried so far. The omellete was just yummy. I wish I can cook like this.

Samira Thai Omelette Rolls

Then, came our Samira Yellow Curry Beef. The curry was cook just right. It wasn’t too think or too diluted. Even though the curry was not spicy but it was packed with flavours. This dish goes really well with the RM4.00 Jasmine rice that we’ve ordered. very recommended if you take beef.

As we wanted to try more items on the menu, we also ordered Samira’s Thai Chicken Tom Kha. Compared to the earlier Samira Yellow Curry Beef, this dish didn’t shine that day. The reason why it wasn’t our favourite because the chicken meat were a bit too tough. Samira’s Thai Chicken Tom Kha is priced at RM16.00.

Pinang Lanta Seafood Steamboat Restaurant at Kepong

Posted by Apple Foodees On March - 12 - 2012

Last week was a very hectic week. The weather wasn’t very good too. It rained so heavily that many parts of Kuala Lumpur were flooded. Since it was a rainy season, again, we found ourselves hunting for steamboat restaurants. So we were to Pinang Lanta Seafood Restaurant. Pinang Lanta Seafood Restaurant is not only a normal seafood restaurant, but here they also serves steamboat.

The ingredients served here are quite different from the other steamboat restaurants in Kepong. I suppose the suppliers that they use are not the same as the rest. Compared to their neighbour Happy City, Penang Lanta Seafood Restaurant seafood ingredients are fresh, but not the freshest that you can find here. It was nevertheless good enough.

There are a number of choices of soup base. Looking through the menu, we decided to go with something different from the common plain chicken stock soup, the Garoupa and Yam Soup for RM16.90. There are many pieces of garoupa fish fleshes which we didn’t expect at all. For only Rm16.90 a person for garoupa base soup, this is one of the best soup bases I find in a steamboat restaurant.
