It was the day of my last birthday. VK brought me to Changkat Bukit Bintang for breakfast to start off our day. We wanted to go for Engka Portobello, a nice restaurant which serves really good breakfast with an affordable price, but was surprise to find out that they are no longer there. As Magnificient Fish & Chips Bar is the only one restaurant that serves breakfast there, we decided to try them.

For some reason, Magnificient Fish & Chips Bar does not have a “proper” menu. We had to walked into the restaurant in order to read the menu which was written on the chalkboard. THis is so inconvenient and to some extent even caused discomfort to other customers dining here as we had to look “through” them just to read the menu.

Their breakfast menu is quite extensive. I ordered the Chirpy Big Breakfast (for RM28) and just like it’s name, the portion of the big breakfast is huge. I have 4 large pieces of sliced-into-half bread, 2 sunny side up eggs, sausage, ham, kidney beans and mushrooms. It tastes quite alright, no complains. If you and your partner do not have big appetite, this portion is good enough for two person. The only down-side is that this big breakfast do not come with coffee or tea.

Based on it’s name, VK ordered their Magnificient Fish and Chips (for RM36) hoping that his meal would be magnificient. However, his fish and chips did not turn out to be magnificient at all. Taste wise, the fish was fresh but had some muddy smell. Presentation wise, I think that it is quite annoying to know that they used a piece of newspaper to hold up the fish and chips. Only a thin piece of paper was used to separate the fish and chips with the newspaper. Isn’t it improper to place a non-edible thing on your customer’s plate?

There should be more places which serves good and affordable breakfast here as there are many tourists around this area. If I were to put myself into their position, I would be happy to know that there are many other choices to choose from for breakfast.

Under Water World / Coral Wonderland Malacca

Posted by Apple Foodees On September - 7 - 2011

So what did you do during the Hari Raya and Merdeka Day break? I was at Malacca for a short trip. I stayed in Malacca for during my university days. Back then, Malacca wasn’t made a World Heritage place yet. But today, thanks to it’s new status as one of the World Heritage place, Malacca has undergone many changes. This in turn, leads to the opening of many new touristy spots. One of them is the opening of the Under Water World / Coral Wonderland at Dataran Pahlawan.

If you love corals, this is the place to be. The corals comes in many shapes and sizes. It was so beautiful to watch and to be photographed at.

The cutest sea creature here is their Chocolate Chip Starfish. Based on it’s appearance, I can see why it is called the chocolate chip starfish.

Seremban Best Chicken Rice at Chai Hong Restaurant

Posted by Apple Foodees On September - 2 - 2011

If you are in Seremban for the Hari Raya holidays right now, I recommend you to try the best chicken rice here at Chai Hong Restaurant. This restaurant serves by far, the best chicken rice I’ve ever tasted. Ipoh, Malacca, Kuala Lumpur or Sarawak chicken rice is no match to this.

Chicken

The chicken was firm, smooth and juicy. I think no explanation necessary as the picture explains it all. The lady boss is quite particular with the presentation of her chicken rice but she is actually making sure every plate of chicken rice she serves goes out in perfect.

Sometimes good food can be very pricey. Our total bill comes up to about RM36 that day. It was expensive but it was worth the try especially for those who are like me, who have not tried Chai Hong’s chicken rice before.

Aston Specialities at City Square Mall, Singapore

Posted by Apple Foodees On February - 28 - 2011

My sister is currently working in Singapore. And I am elated that she is going to share some of her meals she had in Singapore. Please welcome her.

If you are on a trip to Singapore and if you do not know where to go for a nice decent meal in Singapore, you should try Aston. At Aston you do not need to spend too much as their food is decently priced and very affordable to most for it’s value for money meals. Aston is famous for their steaks. It is their signature dish. But instead of ordering steaks, I opted for their ‘Hickory BBQ Chicken’. My friend on the other hand, ordered their ‘Black Pepper Steak’ – SGD $11.90.

Each plate comes with a choice of two side dishes. I had the house salad and mash potato to go along with my Hickory BBQ Chicken at SGD $6.90.

It is easy to find Aston as there are many branches around Singapore island and we had our delicious yet affordable dinner at City Square Mall.
