Sakae Sushi at 1 Utama Mutiara Damansara

Posted by Apple Foodees On July - 18 - 2009

Our latest visit was to Sakae Sushi at 1 Utama Mutiara Damansara. Believe it or not, that was my first time there! The place was already packed with people when we arrived there at 12pm sharp!

Most people would already know the location of Sakae Sushi, nevertheless it is also disclosed below for those who were like me “First-timers”

Location : -

1-Utama
Lot G 212, Ground Floor Promenade
1 Utama Shopping Centre, No.1 Lebuh Bandar Utama,
Bandar Utama Damansara
47800 Petaling Jaya,
Selangor Darul Ehsan
Tel : 603-7726 6428
Fax : 603-7726 6429

The place is not very spacious and jammed packed with their specialities such as LCD monitor for you to choose your food. You can click on all types of food and view it before placement of orders. Prices are also stated there. Quite unique but a little troublesome if you have a large crowd wanting to order different types of food. This is due to the use of a mouse and the area is a little bit cramp. Nevertheless, it was a new experience to me.

Last I heard was this concept was innovated by Sakae Sushi and they had the very same concept in Singapore as well!

Singapore Food Trip at Toa Payoh, Vivo City, Ang Mo Kio etc.

Posted by Apple Foodees On May - 10 - 2009

There are many Singapore Chicken Rice around Kuala Lumpur especially at hawker stalls. During our trip to Singapore this time, we decided to have a taste of the true Singapore chicken rice to taste its actual “Singaporean taste” at Toa Payoh Food Court in this new post of my foodblog.

Well, quite normal for me but there is one thing that stands out from the Malaysian’s normal hawker stall is that their rice texture are served in full form or long grain and they do not serve broken rice. A plus point for that effort! According to a friend of mine, Singapore do not or seldom will you see a stall serving broken rice. They might just “shoo” off their customers if they serve broken rice which is superb as you can get quality rice there and not only from your home-cooked food! I guess that is why majority of the citizens over there eat out everyday.

From the picture, you can actually see that each rice texture are in full form. Sweet! For a plate of chicken rice, it cost only about SGD2. That plate of rice was the cheapest you can get here! They do serve a larger portion of chicken too and a bowl of soup with oily rice. However, no cucumbers comes with it. Weird isn’t it?

Next, we had porridge at Ah Chiang’s Porridge restaurant. It is famous for its traditional charcoal porridge. It is also well known among the locals and it is quite disappointing as you can only find this in Singapore. Its located at several areas in Singapore at the addresses below.
* Blk 65, Tiong Poh Road, #01-38
* Blk 134, Geylang East Ave 1, #01-217
* Blk 190, Toa Payoh Lorong 6, #01-526

Our recent visit was an invitation to a Food Bloggers Gathering Night at Nagomi Shabu-Shabu Sushi Bar at Menara Hap Seng Kuala Lumpur. Located at the heart of Kuala Lumpur, the place was easy to get there and are located at :-

Suite 1-19, 1st Floor, The Podium

I never knew what Shabu-Shabu means before I went there. I am pretty sure there are many people like me out there. Well, its great that Nagomi actually give out fliers notifying the meaning of Shabu-Shabu to all guest which was a plus point for them I must say.

Well here goes, Shabu-Shabu is actually a Japanese variant of hotpot dish, usually served with thinly sliced beef and other ingredients, cooked in a hot pot of boiling dashi (broth) made with kombu (kelp).

Yong Tau Foo @ PJ Old Town - Gerai Seong Kee

Posted by Apple Foodees On April - 1 - 2009

Normally, during the weekdays people tend to choose a lighter meal for lunch. Sitting in the office typing away on the computer does not really use up all the food we have eaten for the day. So, we went to this hawker stall in PJ Old town. It was recommended by a colleague of mine. There were many choices you can choose from the whole list menus such as Yong Tau Foo, Curry fish head, Assam fish, Fried chicken wing, Hack Ka Cha Youk (Hakka fried pork) to Vinegar Pork Leg. As we are tight for time, we tried the Yong Tau Foo.

My first choice was definitely had to be the one with the least meat (Keep Fit Ma) and I got myself a tau foo, a chili, two egg plants and a lady finger. Regardless of what my colleague said, I personally feel that it tastes quite normal. Nothing so fancy about it. However, there is one thing I noticed about this Yong Tau Foo is that it is less oily compared to other stalls that I had eaten before.
