Serai Thai Restaurant at Jalan Sena, Shah Alam

Posted by Apple Foodees On September - 2 - 2009

If you are looking for a place to “berbuka puasa” or a decent place to dine, here’s the place to be - Serai Thai Restaurant. A Thai food restaurant which is located in Seksyen 3, Shah Alam.

Each customers were served with titbits and dates while waiting for their orders to be prepared. Although the dates are not “photogenic” but they are sweet.

Dates

Then came my all-time favourite vegetable, brinjals or eggplants fried with belacan. I just love this dish. Not only because I am a huge fan of brinjals, but its the Serai Thai’s belacan that makes the difference. It is priced at RM10.

Axian Dim Sum Restaurant at Bandar Puteri Puchong

Posted by Apple Foodees On September - 1 - 2009

Axian has his own dim sum restaurant in Bandar Puteri Puchong. If you don’t know who he is; he is the popular host of “Taste With Jason”, one of the Astro programme promoting Malaysian food.

At first I thought he would be one of the chefs who prepares the dim sum to their customers. Well, I am wrong. They have their own dim sum sifus.

Axian

If you are not sure what to order, just look around the restaurant, they have framed pictures menu of their signature dim sums.

One of their favourites were the Shanghai Xiao Long Bao. You got to order this dim sum very early, as you will need to wait for quite long. During our visit, many people were frustrated when they were told to wait for at least 15 minutes for their Xiao Long Bao to be served. We were one of them and no, we did not wait for 15 minutes, we waited for around 20 minutes.

Well, the waiting time was okay as the xiao long bao was quite good.

Siu Mai. Most of Axian’s Dim Sum were priced at RM4.50 each. It is quite expensive as compared to other dim sum restaurants around Puchong area.

Siu Mai

Crispy Salad Roll was quite normal although it was said that it is one of the chef’s specialty here. The prawn was wrapped in rice paper roll and was fried.

Another Prawn Salad.

Axian Dim Sum Restaurant employs many young workers. Each of them were put in-charge of their own tables. Hence, the dim sums will be brought to you. But becareful as they can get very clumsy. One of them accidently poured the hot water on one lady.

Hence, if you want to have a good breakfast here, be sure to get here very early. And if you are lucky, you may be able to meet Axian in person as he would be here in the weekends to greet his fans. A friendly guy he is, he would be happy to pose and take a picture with you and your family.

Rajah Brooke Cafe at Jalan Kuchai Lama

Posted by Apple Foodees On August - 20 - 2009

I had seen this restaurant, Rajah Brooke Cafe being featured in the famous 8TV television programme Ho Chiak, so I decided to try the food out. As I had visited Sarawak just recently, my expectation for the 3-Layered Tea, Sarawak Laksa and the Sarawak Kolo Mee is very high. It will be desirable if they are able to bring the true authentic taste for both the Sarawak Laksa and Kolo Mee to the Peninsula of Malaysia.

Rajah Brooke Cafe at Jalan Kuchai Lama

Our drinks came first; 3-Layered Tea and 3-Layered Coffee. Both look great. Tea right on top, followed by milk and lastly gula melaka (if I am not wrong). I personally think that they did a better job than SS2 Murni Restaurant which I had blog just before this post. LOL. With regards to the taste, I feel that the milk was a little bit too much. Other than that, it was good.

3-Layered Tea or Coffee

Next, came our most awaited Sarawak Kolo Mee. First impression, it does not look the same, but it does taste the same. Sarawak Kolo Mee are mostly red in colour. Price for this Sarawak Kolo Mee with additional prawns is RM8.90.

Sarawak Kolo Mee

Sarawak Laksa was served next. As they gave a lot of “kuah” we had to dig into the mee just to take some nice shots of the laksa. If you do not know already, Sarawak Laksa is entirely not the same with the laksa we have in Kuala Lumpur or Penang. Theirs looks more like our curry mee actually. However, they do taste different from our curry mee. This item is priced at RM8.90 too.

Sarawak Laksa

This is another angle of the Sarawak Laksa. If you notice, they do not use the same “white” mee and yes they do not have mint or sardines too.

Sarawak Laksa 2

If you fancy some food from the East of Malaysia, I do recommend you to try this restaurant out. According to the article from the newspaper they pasted in front of their restaurant, the owner is from the East of Malaysia. Well, I assume, he must be from Sarawak then.

The most important question of all. How to get there?

Bangsar Seafood Garden Restaurant at Bangsar

Posted by Apple Foodees On August - 12 - 2009

Where can you get a nice seafood meal in Kuala Lumpur? Located just in front of TMC, One Bangsar Seafood Restaurant offers halal seafood for seafood lovers in Kuala Lumpur. As each meal is designed to fit the number of patrons on each table hence the price varies. There were eight of us that night.

First up was the Loh Han Vegetables (Loh Hon Chai). One Bangsar Seafood Restaurant’s chef are very good at their presentation of the food. Each cucumber and carrots were sliced to its specific slice and decorated on the sides of the plate with care. This dish is priced at RM40.

Next, we had Fresh Water Prawns. I gotta say, my photo does looks like a mess. But the fresh water prawns cooked with special sauce were delicious. The chef even added chips on top of it. Quite special I would say. The fresh water prawns were priced at RM135 per kg.

Any seafood meal will not be complete without crabs. We had two types! No, not two types of crabs, but two crab dishes with two different cooking styles. The crabs were priced at Rm53-60 per kg.

Huge meaty Butter Crab Claws… Yummy!

The other style was the Salted Egg Yolk Crab. As you can see, the chef too did an awesome presentation on this meal. Each limbs were carefully placed on the plate. Exactly how the crab looks like when it was alive. Well, I personally love this style more. Its much tastier. Bravo on this dish chef!

Simply delicious.

Baked Cod Fish cooked with Oats, priced at RM130 per kg was an eye opener dish for me. I have tried many types of steamed Cod Fish with soya sauce. In my opinion, this style only works if the Cod fish is fresh. Hence, many times, I was disappointed not because the cooking style was bad, but the freshness of the fish. Well, I was not too sure whether the fish was fresh or not, but I really do love the baked cod fish cooked with oats. Creative dish!

Last up, was the Pumpkin Fried Rice served in Pumpkin. The fragrant fried rice was served along with cubes of pumpkins. This dish was priced at RM40.

If you are looking for a seafood fix in Bangsar area, I would say this is the place for you. Beautiful environment, pleasant people and great food. Nice!

Uncle Leong Seafood at Ang Mo Kio (Singapore)

Posted by Apple Foodees On August - 8 - 2009

During our recent trip to Singapore, we went to Uncle Leong Seafood Restaurant located in Ang Mo Kio for dinner. The place was opened by a Malaysian and is managed in the center of Singapore island. The place was famous for its various types of method of cooking delicious crabs.

Location :-
Uncle Leong Seafood Restaurant
Block 233, Ang Mo Kio Ave 3 (St 22) #01-1194, Singapore 560233
You may take the MRT to Ang Mo Kio stop and board bus number 166 or 169 to reach this location at the fifth stop.
Tel : 6554 3453

The first dish we ordered is the most famous of all methods of cooking. Its the crab with thick mee with soup. The good thing about this dish is that, it is filling, sweet taste of the crab and was very delicious. If you look at the other tables around, you will notice that each table orders the same dish. That shows how superb it was! A must try dish.

This is the Golden Sand Crab style. What makes the best out of both dishes is that the crab was large with lots of meats and was very fresh.
