Absolute Thai Hot Pot is a new concept serving Thai steamboat, barbeque seafood, authentic Thai dishes and more.
Looking through the items they offer on their menu, the extra thing that separates Absolute Thai Hot Pot restaurant from the other Absolute Thai franchised restaurants is that they serve Thai steamboat. As for ala carte items – the authentic Thai dishes, these dishes are available throughout their other Absolute Thai restaurants.
I tend to stay away from franchised eateries. I’m not absolutely against it but I chose not to do so as the quality and taste (in particular) of the food can sometimes differ from one restaurant to another. Further, with the cheaper cost hiring foreign workers (who don’t usually know the authentic taste of a particular cuisine supposed to taste like), the food served don’t taste as authentic as they should be.
Since we were having hot pot / steamboat, we were quite convinced they wouldn’t screw this up for us, since we were the ones cooking our food anyway.
For our soup base, we ordered the tom yam and clear broth soup. The soups in the picture above may look the same but I assure you that both soups tasted very different from one another. The tom yam soup was spicy and sourish whereas the clear broth soup was savoury. The portion given was quite reasonable but there were just too many types of different mushrooms given. From King Trumpet (a.k.a. French Horn, King Oyster) mushrooms to Shimeji mushrooms, Enoki mushrooms and Chinese mushrooms. At the end of our meal, we felt as if we just had a lot of earthy mushrooms hot pot instead of a typical Thai hot pot. I wonder whether the mushrooms are the normal ingredients you would normally find in a Thai Hot Pot dish. The prawns are good, I wouldn’t say that they are the best but they quite large. The rests are vegetables and processed food, so there is nothing to talk about. Overall, our bill came up to about RM100++, which is quite expensive if you ask me.

The ambience at Absolute Thai Hot Pot in Bangsar Village is absolutely amazing. From the moment you step into the restaurant, it feels like stepping into a classy vintage “Chatuchak” market with overlooking an indoor bamboo garden. Great ambience, but if we were to dine at Absolute Thai again, I wouldn’t order the hot pot but the a la carte authentic Thai dishes.
