My Cookbook at Sunway Giza, Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya

Malaysians are getting more creative in terms of their food presentation. My Cookbook‘s food presentation is just so pretty. It is sad that I will have to “destroy” the chef’s effort in placing each and every dishes neatly and carefully on my plate in seconds. Turning through the pages of the menu is like looking through an art book. I do have some doubt as to whether they can recreate the look as represented in their menu. You know, the burgers at McDonald’s doesn’t look the same as represented in their menu. But when they brought my Barley Pandan Rice with Curry Chicken – RM15.90 to my table, my jaw dropped. Wow!

Then I have this thought – usually something that looks good doesn’t always taste good. Sorry for being negative but I was numerously disappointed everytime I see food that look so pretty. Well, My Cookbook did a pretty good job here. The curry was thick and rich with flavour, rice rolled into an “uncutted” sushi rolls, half an egg with it’s middle still watery and warm, delicious smash potatoes and a fully packed prawn wanton. It tastes amazingly good.

My Cookbook’s Chicken Rice is one of the best selling item on the menu. Priced at RM15.90, this plate of chicken rice comes with 3 neatly rolled ingredients. Yes, the 2 ingredients are rice rolls, chicken rolls and Japanese cucumber. This plate of chicken rice comes with a bowl of chicken soup.

I’ve got to say, not everything was good. I felt that the Mozarella Balls served in TGI Fridays are much better than the ones offerred here – RM8.90. It is not cheap either. Given the second chance, I won’t order this.

Ho Ho Steamboat Restaurant at Bandar Sri Menjalara, Kepong

There are far too many steamboat restaurants around Kepong. Not that I am complaining, but we are afraid that we would be taken on a joy ride. One of our main concerns is the ingredients that they provide. If I am not mistaken, there are two steamboat restaurants who claims to stock up their seafood ingredients from Pulau Ketam aka Crab Island. One in Bandar Menjalara, and another one in Desa Park City. Which one is better? I don’t really know yet. (Maybe I’ll go to the one in Desa Park City someday, but definitely not for this coming few weeks because I am taking a short break on steamboat.)

We tried Ho Ho’s Steamboat Restaurant in Bandar Menjalara last week. They have a minimum order for their set meals – two sets. And a set is priced at RM15.50 each so if you are dining with another person, it is only RM31.00. No service charge or government charge.

Their set meal comes with two really fresh prawns, some slices of fish, yam, chinese cabbage, wanton, fish balls, dried rolled beancurd, siakap fish flesh, fish noodles, fish fillets, vegetable rolls, two chicken eggs, two quail eggs, yee mee and mee hoon.

You may add more ingredients if you needed more variety for your meal. Additional fish and meat slices costs RM6/RM12, vegetables-RM8, beancurd-RM6/RM12, prawns, depending on weight is about RM16 to RM40 and etc…

Shumatsu Japanese Buffet Weekend Dinner at Eyuzu, Eastin Hotel, PJ

Currently Jogoya is having a promotion for their supper buffet, where for one paying customer, the other partner will get to eat for free. Weekdays only. That sounds like a good deal but there were so many bookings that we only manage to book for a table for the following week. So we ended up going to Eastin Hotel’s Eyuzu, Shumatsu Japanese Buffet Dinner instead.

Eyuzu is also having a promotion for their weekend Sunday buffet dinner, 4 person free 1 person. RM82.00++ (adult) and RM41.00++ (child) from 6.30pm to 10.00pm. The ambiance in Eyuzu is quite pleasant. Although the restaurant is full, at least, it is not too crowded. This is so much better than the other Japanese Restaurant in Mont Kiara, Tenji.

Salmon-Sashimi

The sashimis are really fresh. I love the salmon sashimi the most.

Don’t the prawns look good? If you love mashed potatoes, I do recommend you trying them. You can find the mashed potatoes at the salad station next to the sashimis. Their Shark fin soup is comparatively good.

As for their Teriyaki Unagi this dish is the bomb! If you are a unagi fan, I’m sure you will love it. You can find this at their mixed dishes station, located near Eyuzu’s main entrance.

Their tempura station are located behind their sashimi station. Tempuras are prepared upon order so although you need to wait for them to cook it, you can order any tempura ingredients of your choice. The best part of it is that they are prepared fresh!

Next to their tempura section, is the teppanyaki section. Like their tempura section, all teppanyakis are also prepared fresh. You may order meat, seafood or vegetables of your choice here. Read the rest of this entry »
