PappaRich @ Kepong Baru

The Manhattan Fish Market

In the last few years, it seems kopitiams are making a comeback scene in Malaysia. Everywhere you go in Klang Valley or maybe Penang, you will have no trouble spotting kopitiams.  It looks like there is a serious competition among all the kopitiams with which kopitiam has the most branches in Malaysia?  According to my own observation, Old Town Kopitiam is booming with success and it seems to fair better than the rest.

Well, I am really not a fan of modern “kopitiams” but these shops are springing up everywhere!  Short of time to go for lunch, we decided to give PappaRich a go.

Curry mee

One of their starred dish here is their Curry Kuey Teow.  It was a simple dish; kuey teow coated with some flavoursome curry kuah. The thin type of kuey teow were used here and I quite like it as it was very easy on my mouth.  This dish was priced at RM9.90 per bowl. Quite pricey for a meal with only some kuey teow, curry kuah, tougeh, some meat and spring onions.

Wanting something soupy, my friend ordered their Kuey Teow Soup at RM7.90. It tasted quite similar to the the Kuey Teow Teng in Ipoh.  But it was a little bit salty for his liking though.

At times, I really wonder how these growing franchises survive. Their price is not cheap. They serve the same coffees you can get in any old tradisional kopitiams. Their food is okay only.  Yet more and more are growing everywhere. I can understand that they may charged a higher price because of the renovation to make the shop appears more classy but really, I don’t know.  Nevertheless, if you have lots of money to spend and are not too particular with your food, I do recommend you PapaRich, mostly because of their restaurant ambiance. But if you are picky on your food, this place is a big No-No for you.

This place is quite empty during lunch time. In times like this, I guess everybody prefers to cook or to go for cheaper food than to through their nose for lunch.

They do make a lot of effort in beautifying this place.  The exterior of the shop has a very large signboard holding the name PappaRich. With such huge signboard I’m sure that only a small number of people would miss it.

PappaRich…I wonder whether my papa will get richer after I dine here. I sure hope he will. lol…
