Oxford City - Harry Porter Film Scenes - Part 2

Posted by Apple Foodees On October - 23 - 2009

The great Tudor Dining Hall was built in 1529. This dining hall has attracted many famous people to dine here.

Dining Hall

In the earlier times, this dining hall was used by Charles I who held his parliament here. Not only that, Elizabeth I had also watched a play here before. Even Charlie Chaplin was here too. The hall was the inspiration for Hogwarts in the Harry Porter film.

Leading towards the Tudor Dining Hall, the Great Staircase was also featured in the movie.

Every table that has ever been here is still here. Visitors are not allowed to touch the furnitures. Only those who dine here, normally Oxford students of this Christ Church college are allowed to dine here.

The portraits around the dining halls were also featured in the movie Harry Porter. The difference here is that the people in the potraits are not moving. And no, there is not a single picture of Dumbledore here. Haha!

Students of this college usually dines here in the evening, hence this place is only open to public in the morning until 5:30pm.

If you notice in the movie Harry Porter, there are candles floating around the dining hall. In the real world, there is not a single candle which you can see here.

Plates, utensils and glasses were arranged in order for dinner.

Even the lamps too are arranged in a straight line.

According to the booklet I got here, Lewis Carrol ate 8000 meals here. He is famous for his writing of the book “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”.

There is a souvenir shop near the cathedral. If you like, you may purchase the jumper which bears the name Oxford University or other souveniers. However, you won’t be able to find any Harry Porter merchandise here.
